kwhite is going to be doing the research for me. I haven't decided what to do with the orphan blocks, but there are a bunch of them.

What struck me about this quilt is the green diamonds between the blocks. I don't think I'd ever seen one quite like that before. And they are really small!

I am sad that someone's family didn't realize the treasure that they had. But maybe there wasn't any family. It sold for a song, and I'm glad I rescued it.

It's absolutely beautiful, and it's found a good home with you. I think the handquilting idea is probably the best way to go, it will be truly glorious when finished.

Red, I'll certainly let you know!

Gai that is beautiful. And I agree completely with your decision to have it hand quilted. Nothing wrong with machine quilting as you say, but for something like this, hand quilting is more authentic and fitting somehow.

It's so sad that heirlooms like this go for a song. But I'm thrilled that this one at least found a good home with you. :D

PS How big are the hexagons? And do you think it was EPP'd? Are there papers in it still? Sometimes they're old envelopes or letters and have dates on.

What a treasure! I think hand-quilting is the way to go.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to know its history. At least now it will be with someone who appreciates it and that is so great, as a lot of hard work went into this top.
