Wish I had made that quilt. I don't know the ladies name that brought it in. Your right a larger black border would have been nice. I took a lot of pictures that night. I have a few pictures of one quilt that wasn't done yet. It was laid out on a table. I do know the lady that made it. She is an invalid and worked on it for 3 years. She did cross stich on the entire quilt. It was just beautiful. I took 3 different pictures of it. My quilting friend took it and finished it on her long arm and I saw it again when it was finished but didn't have my camera that day. The woman that made it was giving it to her daughter. I'm sure that girl will cherish it forever. Here are some pictures of her quilt.

That quilt was huge when it was finished. I'm sure it was a King Size. I'd love to be able to do that but I don't have the patience.

On the topic of borders, it's a bargello, you don't want a border that is going to take away from the bargello design....if you want to add a border, make it a solid color so it's not competing with the center fabrics in the design.... if it was me, I would put a 4 inch solid black border on it, with black binding.
I totally agree with Shadow. Keep it simple to not distract from the beauty of the quilt body. this is just my opinion.

I think I agree with Shadow....the 4"black border would be great, and would frame it in such a way that your eye will be drawn to the beautiful pattern. You did a lovely job. I know that must have been a lot of work. Good for you, Girl!

lovely work - I would put a one and a half inch(cut) black border on, then take one of the colours from near the centre (the two tone aqua colour) and then four and a half inch border of that.... (cut), and bind it with black. The centre will pop with the black ......

Chele, I've been thinking about your Batik Bargello all weekend. I wasn't ready to do another Bargello, but now I think I'll try to make this one. It combines the best of two worlds: Batiks & Bargellos! I do have one question. Did you pre wash the batiks? Thanks for the inspiration. :)

MaxineB, It's probably a good idea to prewash batiks. I can't wait to see your Batik Bargello. I thought it was kind of fun to make. Finally got my black borders on this weekend.

Thanks for everyone's help. I couldn't have done it without you!

A very narrow black border if any at all. It is stunning just as it is.

I agree with Shadow a small black border is all it needs unless for some reason you want it larger then I'd put a narrow black border, then the color and bind it in the same fabric. It would be a shame to distract from the bordello, it's fabulous darling.
