First I drew a picture with a blue water soluble pen on quilters cotton muslin. Then I put a thin, thin, batting (quilters dream - "request"), behind the cotton muslin so i had a base to embroider on, then I painters taped this to a plastic surface and brushed on textile medium and let dry. Next I painted with derwent inktense pencils or blocks. Then I used textile medium, instead of water, to blend the colors, so it was never wet enough to really need the plastic table protector. I let dry, then heat set the picture with a hot iron. When set, I added square charms, another thin layer of batting, a fat qtr for backing, stippled it on my DSM, and assembled via a QAYG technique.

Some people use a thin stabilizer to embroider, I am not successful with that and so I use a thin batting. I had hoped the double batting would give the picture a fluffy , trupunto, look, but it was hardly noticeable, if at all.

Thanks for asking......Jane

The chick’s are the cutest! I love this quilt.

I had my granddaughter draw (crayons) something on Fabric everytime she came to my house. Then before she got too old to remember, I asked her to write down what each block represented. I have planned to put the “represent” block on the back of the “drawn” block (backing). I have never pieced the blocks because I was not sure how I wanted to piece them. Your quilt has me thinking of this little quilt now. My granddaughter is 19 years old now. It would be a great gift for her.....(I had originally planned to give it to her dad). Thanks for showing your great quilt.

Sounds like a wonderful plan ellen1. Children draw the most intriguing paintings. (I took photos of my grand's artwork). Let the magic begin!

Your quilt is absolutely awesome and your descriptions are fascinating, never boring. I enjoyed every one. Thanks for posting and sharing the details. All the QAYG quilts I have seen were assembled with very narrow sashings, was interested how you assembled with the wider sashing, would appreciate if you could explain how you did it. Thanks.
