I did a jeans quilt a few years ago, and I added fabric squares. My nephew was really into Nascar, and I found fabric with cars, drivers signatures, and other racing items. I added a few of these to personalize the quilt with something he was really into. Also a flannel back is nice for a jeans quilt.

I love these! Great work! What size blocks did you use? And did you have a pattern you worked from? I'm having a hard time putting my jean blocks into a pattern that I'm happy with.

PBS - I tried to make the blocks 12" x 12" with an 1/2" seam allowance. I sewed all the individual blocks together then arranged them on the floor to how I wanted them. The darker blue in some of the quilts are from a denim material I had on hand, to give the quilt a difference in color. I did not have a pattern. The blocks that have 9 are from my daughters jeans with not as much material as my son's jeans had so I just made smaller blocks in a "block" to equal my 12" x 12" block. I hope that makes sense. Beware of the weak knees and the stains. I had to go back through my daughters quilt and replace some after I "thought" I had it done. And looking at the other quilts in the pictures I probably should have replaced some more. The longer pieces I cut 7" x 13" for the two rectangles in a block. The 9 squares in a block were cut 5" x 5" and the 4 square blocks were cut 7" x 7" If I remember correctly. I never measured the quilts after I sewed them together to see what size they actually turned out. The top quilt I was going for a 6'x7' the other two I was going for 5'x6'. My son is 6'5" so that is why the first one was bigger. When he opened it he said it was really heavy. lol I used twin size flannel sheets on the smaller ones and full size sheet on the bigger one. Word of warning if you do flannel for the backs. I ordered the two for the smaller ones from target one fuzzed up a bit the other one didn't. That was a little frustrating. I will stop rambling. Thanks, Carol, for all your info! After I get this house cleaned up from the Holidays, I'm going to start on this project again. I've got seven grandchildren and their two mothers have been saving their old jeans for me. I've been working on one quilt but my heart hasn't been in it because I'm not sure of what I'm doing!! But thanks to you, I'm all gun-ho to start up again. I'll let you know if I need some more guidance. Thanks again and a Happy and Blessed New Year to you and your family.

My dd and ddil have been saving the children's jeans for over a year so I have quite the collection! I LOVE quilting but I did find out something about my self. I need to work with a pattern. I am not creative but I can follow instructions! Now that Carol provided me with one, I am off and running!!

Hi Carol, I emailed you a while ago about your terrific jean quilts. I mentioned that I was having a hard time getting started because I wasn't happy with any of the patterns I saw. Once I saw your two quilts, I couldn't wait to get to my cutting board! Well, I'm sewing on the binding right now for my first one (I have four more to go!). If it wasn't for you, I NEVER would have tackled this! So, thank you again :thumbup: I followed your suggestion for "tying" instead of "quilting". I'm very happy with this idea. But now I have another question. How short (or long) did you cut the yarn? I left them about four inches because I wanted to check with you before I cut them. THANKS AGAIN, DEAR, YOU ARE MY ANGEL :-D

After I tied (I used embroidery thread) I think I left about 1 1/2" - 2" I hope this helps. I am not sure how yarn is whether it shrinks or not. So that might be something to consider, too. You could leave them longer and then after the first washing see how much/or little the yarn shrinks then cut them shorter if need be.

Glad you are getting your quilts going! You are way more adventurous than I was by putting a binding on them!
