The one on the right - its more distinct the one on the left looks like a black blob in the center could be my monitor...

I like the light to dark, but I think you should quit asking other people's opinion, and go with your gut feeling. If you look deep inside yourself, cuz I think you already know which one you like best. Keep me updated

Did a search on the french braids here, and me preference are the ones that go from light in the center to dark at the edges. Had to recheck even the one I made. Both of your layouts are striking in those colours.
