Great quilt. I'm sorry for your friend's terrible diagnosis. Wishing her well in the fight.

Beautiful quilt and no wonder she loves it. How did you do the quilting?

It really is rather easy. I found the exact center of the quilt and drew around a thread spool to create a circle stopping short of making the circle complete. I then marked a gradual line that veered off the almost circle. Starting near that point I started stitching with my walking foot making a spiral. I used the edge of my walking foot to space the spiral. It gets easier as the spiral gets bigger. Keep going u til you run out of space, then fill in the corners. Jacqui Gering has a great class on Blueprint on walking foot quilting. Good luck. I love the texture and the way that the spiral contracts with strong straight lines in the piecing.
