Bittersweet story, Becka. Thank you so much for feeling comfortable enough to share it with us on the quilt board. As you share your feelings and emotions, you are helping others with their losses! Please know that we are always here to listen...these are tender moments of love!
As you now are inspired to complete your quilt...and the finish line is near...your dear Mom would be so pleased with your accomplishments. She is living within you!
A great big hug to you! :)

The legend and quilt are beautiful.
I really like the back you have made for your quilt.

Becka, Your quilt is stunning and the reason you are quilting it makes it so much more special. I am part Cherokee a small part on my mother's side and my son has researched some of the traditions. Native American cultures are fascinating and this tradition makes so much sense. I just lost my mother-in-law last month after having her in my home for 7 years. She's been my mom for 52 years so her loss is a great sorrow. I think I will follow this tradition and make a quilt in honor of her life and give it to her best friend. Thanks for sharing.

This board is the best group of people I know. Thank you for the hugs and encouragement. Even my beloved church ladies looked at me funny when I started explaining the Lakota tradition and my reason for wanted to honor them; I think they feared I was turning to the dark side! lol.

You should come to Pueblo Colorado. Along the river walk a statue of a Lakota woman was erected. She appears to be turning around with her star quilt swirling in the wind. it is beautiful. My husband and children are part Ute and Navajo.

    Becka,
Sorry for the loss of your mother. I lost mine 8 years ago.
The quilt is so fabulous! I love hearing about Native American traditions!
Your friend, and you, are so lucky to be friends.
