It's a great fabric combo.
Oh poop, here I was trying to make sure I gave jordansoforegon the credit for the log cabin block, but just to be more clear: before I decided to purchase the kit, I used their photo of the finished block and pasted into the Paint program, figured out which arrangement I liked best and then which fabrics to use for borders. That way I could see what a beautiful quilt it would be when done. But you certainly can, and I have, use Paint to design the whole square from scratch.

1234Irene, I'm not very computer literate, but we have Windows 2000 on our computer and the Paint program came with it. Not sure if that will tell you which version it is or not. One of the draw backs with this program is that it works easiest with straight lines.

I'd like to show you another quilt design that I used Paint and Kaleidoscope creator to create. (My design inspiration curve is too far ahead of my quilting learning curve) ;) This one happened to come into my mind when I fell for the Imperial 6 collection of fabrics from Robert Kaufman. It makes a very large quilt though, so I need to play around more if I wish to make a smaller one.

But I have not, which is why I was totally blown away by the image. I'm still blown away by your use of the crappy add-on Paint program to make your rendition with borders. ;-)

I am now inspired to try something in Paint other than just drawing lines on an image. Thanks!

[quote=MTSLooks just as good as EQ.[/quote]

This is going to sound ignorant, but what is EQ?
I use EQ fabrics for my ink jet printer... is it the same company and what do they make to use in designing?

Electric Quilt. It's a quilt design software.
http://electricquilt.com/
And, yes, same company that makes that photo fabric.

And it's not cooperating with me at the moment. GRRRRR.

But it usually does. Wonderfully.

Oh my goodness MTS.... does that ever look like fun! But it isn't cheap. I now have something else to save up for / dream of buying someday / beg for for Christmas / etc. It can do so much more than Paint! Thanks for the link.

They have a very "lite" version called Design Wizard.
http://www.electricquilt.com/Shop/QDW/QDW.asp

I've never used it because I have EQ, but it's a way to get some experience and use out of design software, and the price is right.

It's like some people only use 1% of what Word or Excel software is capable of and don't even realize it.
You might find DW fits your need. And if you ever did want to switch to EQ, you're not out a ton of money.

Hahah! That's great too MTS - and it still beats using Paint to design! I had no idea I was such a glutton for punishment. After taking a gander at what EQ can do, well Design Wizard sort of seems closer to that old Paint program. I'm just going to have to sell some stuff and buy EQ 7!
