Love your scrappy quilt. Your profile doesn't say what kind of quilting system you use. I float my quilts all the time. Many of the quilters use centering measuring tapes. I did something different and it improved my quilts a bunch. I have a Gammill Classic + and all I did was take 2 - 60" measuring tapes and taped each to one of the ends where the Velcro clamps attach. I put them roughly in the middle of that. Used masking tape and just attached the lower number end. Now when I get a quilt on there, I use the tape and measure to the edge of the quilt or if the final border is wonky I measure to the seam where it attaches. I use a small piece of masking tape, write that number on it and place it on one of the clamps. I don't have to remember what the distance should be. Often I will choose to off center a quilt for one reason or another. By doing the same on both ends. It doesn't matter if one is 44" and the other is 45" As long as they stay the same all the way down the quilt. Doesn't matter if you tape perfectly when you attach them to the machine frame. The distance is the same since it doesn't move. I use to just eyeball and for reasons unknown to me, I find when I do and then measure = I usually need to convince the edge to move a bit one way or another. I no longer trust my visual straightness, I trust the tapes. Happy stitching
