You did a wonderful job! Your dh will love it for sure. It's always challenging to piece quilts that are not your color choice, or even block choice. Your quilting looks just fine, from what I can see from the back. It was made out of love, and that's all that matters. Good job sweetie.

Now you can move onto other things. Is the baby a girl? Are you choosing the colors you like or will you attempt to match the nursery? I recently made a double sided baby quilt for a co-workers newborn. I had some bright left over heart blocks for the front. I asked the mom what her fav color is. It's blue. So I made simple blue stars for the back. Now I'm not sure which side should be the front!!! I think I just decided...since the newborn is a girl, the hearts will be! Thanks for letting me talk it out! Good luck with your baby quilt!

By the way, your quilt does look manly! So that's good. May you and dh cuddle under his quilt for many years to come!

The baby is a boy, and the parents are currently not in agreement about whether or not they should do a car themed nursery (his idea) or a jungle theme (her idea). So one side of the quilt I'm making will be jungle, and one will be cars. How's that for compromise?

I also just ... umm .. finished, I guess you would say, a small baby quilt for my supervisor. She doesn't like colors - she's very "neutral" but I just can't do a baby quilt in neutral colors. The reason why I'm not sure if it's finished is that I was embroidering Winnie the Pooh characters on it to tie it, but I broke two machines doing it! I had four blocks left to go, and I just do not have time to wait any longer, as I'm in Texas and my supervisor is in London. I have to send the quilt over with the next person on a plane that direction, but not sure when that will be. If I can get a machine repaired by then, I will embroider the last four blocks. If not, I'm afraid it will have to go as is, since Brits take six months to a year maternity leave, so if she heads out before I get the quilt over there, the kid could be a year old before she gets it!

Thanks so much for the kind words on the churn dash. My personal style is to take a "traditional" block and do it in different color combinations, like black & jewel tones. I made two tops for my husband before this one and I had the impression he wasn't too thrilled with them (he says he loved both, but you can sort of tell, can't you, when someone is less than enthusiastic) so I told him to choose the pattern and then dragged him to the LQS to buy fabric. He certainly cannot complain about it.

As for not seeing the errors, I'm really good at hiding them with the photography angle, but trust me, they are there! LOL
