I just completed this project today and am so excited with the way it turned out....I just had to share it.

This block project is intended to be my daughters birthday present. Yet, knowing that her taste is so completely different from mine, I decided to send her a photo and get a yeah or neah from her before sending it off. I told her in no way would I be offended if it is not something that she would like. Because, that just gives me a great exuse to design another block and practice some more Free Motion Machine Embroidery!!!!

I have been searching the internet for ideas and tips. I found quite a few blogs, videos and information looking under Textile Art Quilts. Just in case anyone would like to further their interest...just start clicking and you will be amazed at what these people do.

That is incredible! Freemotion embroidery is something I do want to get into someday soon, but I think I will save it for next winter! You did a great job on this!

That's beautiful but looks time consuming. I really like embroidery work and would love to do that. Is the leaves and bird bodys filled in with thread or is that some applique work mixed in with the thread art?

I copied the designs onto paper, then arranged them the way I wanted....then drew the design onto tear away stabilizer and sat down at the sewing machine. Picked out my thread for the leaves and covered the area with thread. Using a zig zag stitch with the feed dogs down and the stitch length at zero and the width between 1 and 2. It did take a lot of thread to thoroughly cover the designs. Next time, I am going to try applique and then covering with thread. From my understanding it can be done either way.

I often applique and use thread to cover and add special interest to parts of it, but one day I would like to do just what you did here, full embroidery. I guess that the applique would save alot of thread though because you don't have to try and cover so much. You did a great job on this
