Granddaughter's quilt
#1

My granddaughter is 10 years old and loves to sew when she comes to visit. We have made small things like can koozies, potholders, coasters and even an apron for her mom for Mother's Day. Her aunt gave her a stack of fat quarters. Mya asked to make something big with them, so we looked at patterns and chose Lucky Star. I made the stars and did the cutting. Mya chose the colors that went around each star block and sewed them and ironed them in place. We laid the finished blocks on the floor, and she arranged them how she wanted them. I told her she flips blocks around like a pro! I sewed them together into the top and picked her up after school for her first trip to the quilt shop to choose backing fabric. She had several bolts out and eliminated them one by one until she got the perfect one. I quilted it and stitched the binding. She will get her quilt tomorrow at Thanksgiving. I think she will be excited that it is done. She is looking for the next project already. It is great to spend time with her.
