    Half Chevron Baby Quilt

Recently, RainyBC posted a quilt, but didn't remember the name of the pattern or where it came from. I needed a quick baby quilt for a co-worker and decided to make one. I'm calling it a "Half Chevron" quilt because I don't know what else to call it.

The backing is a bright red baby corduroy with white polka dots. It washed up very soft. You can see it as the binding as I tend to self-bind baby quilts.

I really like this quilt. It is busy but not too busy. It is fun for a baby and should keep a tot busy for many hours.

Oh - about the polka dots - my wife and I went to a quilt show recently and one of the vendors was displaying a baby quilt made of pinwheels. Each pinwheel was a bright color with white polka dots. And the vendor had a basket under the hanging baby quilt filled with fat quarters of all the polka dot fabric. I liked the look of it, but I don't really care for pinwheels. So when I saw this pattern, I thought "Bingo!"

What a wonderful quilt for a baby! Great gift for your co-worker. I've never cared much for chevron quilts but I love your half chevrons! And love the polka dots!

Bonnie, yes it is. The nice thing is that I use the "two squares sewn diagonally and cut down the middle" method, which gives you two half square triangles, which makes one unit of the chevron. I hope that's clear. I used eight fat quarters for the body and had enough fabric left over, I made the piano keys border from the rest. Originally I thought it was like a braid pattern, with the pieces cut with diagonal ends.

Thanks, Rainy. I really liked the one you showed. I couldn't figure out what to call it - Half Zig? Half Zag? Because I think "zigzag" not "chevron" when I see that pattern. Then I remembered "chevron," so that's what I called it.

Wow! That's a great quilt! It's so bright and cheerful - will give the baby much pleasure to look at and sleep under. Polka dots are always so whimsical and fun. The corduroy will be so nice and warm. A wonderful gift.

I really like this pattern - as i already told RainyBC.....and i will definitely be using some of my stash to make one.
You fabric choice made me smile as well - i made my newest grandbaby a puffy quilt with almost all the same polka dotted fabrics. So cheerful.
