No Patti - not 'stupid'! If you did larger pieces to make the block then you would leave open pieces to quilt on afterwards, BUT you could do this block by block - much easier than struggling with a whole quilt at once. If you did larger blocks, say 10" square in a square, you could do some FMQ in the centre square. I'm thinking of doing something like this to practice my FMQ because if I mess up, it's only one block - not the whole quilt! But YOU don't need the practice. :-D
