Good idea but I think it's more to do with the amount of quilting that's already in the block from the piecing process - ie lines at 1" apart. :-D

Oh I see. I guess maybe because they are often in straight lines too?
I finally figured out how to copy & paste into Word so I can actually follow your method & try making a lap quilt. I know that I will try it now. Thanks so much for the good descriptions but especially for the excellent pictures!

I have read many QAYG books, but I think your method will work better for me than any others I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to share this with us!
