I was thinking muslin also to keep to the fabric age. Wasn't bubble gum pink popular in the 40's?

I have a sheet with the 6" block for Jobs Tears drawn on it if you want a copy. I have seen the other setting called Jobs Troubles. The "corners" go in really easily by hand...<grin> anyway if you want a copy of my pattern, let me know. I'd be happy to send it to you.

What a treasure!

I think I would use white muslin in keeping with the
vintage fabric. As for "construction", I'll leave those
suggesions to the quilters who are more experienced
than me.

One thing is for sure, it is going to be beautiful!

What I'm trying to picture is the pieces with black will meld into a black backing, the same if muslin is used with the pieces that are white/off. Would a tea stained muslin be a consideration or would that be too dark and not right?

What a touching gift. I wish I could make some grand suggestion, but I can't, except I like the muslin idea. I just cannot wait to see what you do with this!

Would think muslin would be good for setting them. The fabrics look like pre WWII, but I would find someone who is more involved with textiles to date them, someone at a LQS that deals with homespuns or a museum if you want to preserve the integrity of the fabrics. Are they hand pieced? You may have said, but I have CRS and disremember!

Thanks for all of your suggestions! I definitely think muslin is a go. I might lean towards an off-white to keep the quilt a little lighter, although black sure would set off the colors.

Shemjo - they are hand pieced with tiny, tiny stitches. I will definitely need to practice my hand sewing before taking this on.

Oh, I hope I can show you a picture of this when it is finished. It might be years from now, but I'll give you some progress pics as I get things accomplished.

:-) :) :-) :) :-) :) :-)

rosemary128,
I found this pattern on my Quilt Pro my printer is out of color ink so this is in black and white. It's called Mills and Stars . You could use it with just your blocks and leave out the the others. Just another idea.
