I might think of treating the design as if it were a tree and quilt with inverted Vs in the area of the "tree. Not sure what to do with the rest. It is a real puzzling thought.

Do let us know what you decide to do

Lol, it is a tree. Those aren't squares, though. This is a Double Diamonds Christmas Tree wall hanging so those are actually diamonds that are folded down from the fabric behind it so I don't think that SID would work well here, with all the Heat 'N' Bond that I used. I'm liking the idea of swirls, but perhaps larger swirls with a green thread that might blend with the fabric instead of upstaging the design? I really am still so confused as to what to do.

I can't seem to get my mind around the concept "folded down" diamond to make a square. Maybe my origami skills are deficient. Was it hadr to do?? it looks so complicated. Wonderful WH. Are you going to use it as a Christmas wall??

Oh, no, it was super easy. You fuse two fabrics together, wrong sides together. Then you fold them, cut two slashes with the Double Diamonds template and then open up again. It creates a "V". You fold that "V" down, steam in place and put another background fabric behind to showcase through the opening. Here's the link to a tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xnr3hXUzfRs
