You could do some free motion quilting inside the blocks, following the motif in the block to highlight that particular item.

Sorry, I'm too new at this to be giving advice, but I wanted you to know that I love your quilt. The outer border is gorgeous and looks like Northern Lights (duh, it is probably called that anyway).

Thank you all for the advice & ideas. I've got lots to think over now! I did a practice square on a muslin 'sandwich' & FMQ inside the square looked bad on the backside; but I'm not very good at FMQ. It might be safer to leave it blank, now that I know it will be mostly stable - (thanks Grammie Dwynn) I will post a photo when it's done...

I was thinking about doing something wavy, like water, to simulate northern lights. I wanted to do some flowers over the flower print (forget-me-nots) but not sure that mixing up quilting would look good or not. Now I'm not so sure I should sitd either. Indecision is so frustrating!

I was thinking what Matilda said. SID around the rectangles and then evenly spaced lines in the borders, horizontal on the sides and vertical on the top and bottom. The floral design would work nicely as well.

It is a beautiful top piece. I had something similar in mind for my son and DIL living in Orlando. I really like your design.

I think quilting in the sashings and borders would do. The blocks themselves I'd leave alone--great as they are!

I forgot to mention that I'm planning on using invisible thread on the front. The back is a rich mahogany flannel that matches the colors in the animals so my quilting will show.
