I like the idea of bordering the panel before adding any blocks. I think your blocks are to bright for your panel. I love the colours of the log cabins but not to go around this panel. I have seen others on the board who have used fairy panels maybe you can find them a get some ideas.

Love the fairy panel, but like others on here I think the pink and purple shades you are using are too bold for the panel. I agree with a pale green for a border around the fairy panel then I would tone down the pinks and purples, they need to be more muted. This is just MO,

I like this idea that would make a cute quilt
You got some great responses and ideas. I agree that the log cabin and fairy panel colors crash. A much softer and subtle fabric like pastels will do better.
I googled and found this- https://www.google.com/search?q=Mary...fairy+quilt&tb

Here is one on pintrest.

I think this particular panel is very soft and pastel in color so I would not add strong colors.
Fairy frost pastels would be great but most likely not affordable for something you do not get paid for. Maybe you can add just a little here or there but stick to the pastels.
Some of the most beautiful quilts have been made with these panels. I agree that the smaller ones are not needed and are taking away from the main panels. Maybe make a pillow sham with some of you do want to use them or put them on the back. You can just applique them onto the back fabric or onto the sham by just turning under the edge.
A simple border and simple blocks of the right fabric is all it needs.
Here is an idea on how to use the small panels alongside the large panel. I am not sure if you have enough small panels or additional fabric to do this.

Scrap the log cabins - perhaps make simple nine patches or four patches in just various shades of pinks and purples around the panels (I think lighter shades would compliment the panel. And maybe a border or two to set it off.

The title of this thread certainly caught my attention and I thought, this must be bad!! Like ifstamper, I think the colors of the log cabins just don't maybe go with the colors in the panel. However, if these are the fabrics she sent, I guess you could maybe add some others to the mix. If you google medallion quilts, you will find oodles of ideas as your panel is the medallion. You will get worlds of ideas to work with in addition to those already suggested. Sometimes just seeing all the possibilities will re-direct your juices and good luck!!

Wow. I have no idea how I would work with that central panel without using cream! My fear would be that it would end up looking like a big hole in the middle of the quilt, and just disappear because lighter colours recede so much. And it is such a pretty panel! The mini panels are also too cute- I like that cherry red- but how to bring it all together? I feel your pain! You are such a friend to do this and, as others have said, the client will love what you don't love! Best of luck.
