We bought a bunch of FQ's today, together, they will make a nice sized lap quilt for her. I would say I gave her free reign on the fabric...but my eyes just couldn't let her do a red and green Christmas print with the shiny purple...so I picked out a few that matched with the shiny purple and let her choose from those. She did the ironing and I did the cutting... She's only 5, so I can't let her work the machine all on her own, but I'm going to have her arrange the blocks in whatever pattern (or lack of) she chooses and help her sew them together by operating the machine and guiding her hands to feed the fabric through. She's SO proud to be "making her own quilt".

Being SO careful ironing

My grand-daughter has been sewing on my Singer FW since she was 4. Explain the workings and let her get the feel of the machine and where not to put her hands. The quilt that won the Junior blue ribbon at our fair was 6 yr old boy.

What a lovely young lady, and great way to spend some mother daughter time. Please ask her to post pictures of her progress.

This is how we get started! She's very proud of what she's accomplished, and she will be even more proud of her finished project! Good for you for letting her make her own choices--sometimes that's hard! Bet you both had fun working on this together!

She is just a doll. And looks so proud of herself. My DGD started sewing about the same age. She loves it. She loves going to the fabric store too.
