Some museum might be interested in that quilt, and certainly there will be someone who can advise you on how to clean, care for and store it.
I was thinking that, as well. This looks like a real museum piece and certainly it would be great to get advice on cleaning and storage.

< it is a horseshoe with a ...>

That is driving whip. The lash is long to reach the horse. A whip is required when driving a horse, not to hit the animal, but to use in place of your legs, to give cues.

I love the little flowers scattered throughout. I agree that there is a museum in Kansas that would love to display this.

I too am amazed at the amount and variety of hand stitching in this fantastic quilt. I see embroidery stitches that I have never seen in any other crazy quilt, not that I am an expert on embroidery stitching, but there are some on there that are just fascinating.

WOW.....what a history lesson you have there....doesn't it just make your heart sing. My question: is all that "crazy embroidery stitching done by hand...I am guessing so...what kind of thread, can you tell...is it cotton or silk????are those blocks hand pieced or machine pieced together. Don't know off hand when sewing machine became a "household thing"...Just keep examing that wonderful map of history........and share with us......
Will you be taking in for appraisal and maybe if it would be of interest to a quilt museum.
