An update: I used the Synthrapol twice (the first time using warm water, although the directions said to use hot...and the bleed wasn't gone so I got brave and rewashed in hot water). The quilt was somewhat better and I suspect that with repeated washings it will improve even more.

Regardless, it now belongs to my grandson and I couldn't resist sharing this picture of him lying on it :-)

Thanks to all of you for your comments and suggestions and support.

Oh my goodness!!!!!! How precious is that?! And I don't see any bleed at all with the quilt now! So glad that it worked out for you. That little guy sure looks totally happy with it. Great work!

What a gorgeous quilt! Hopefully the rest of the bleed will come out. Adorable star you have there.

I had some bleeding on the back of a quilt and was heartsick. A friend told me to soak it in Biz detergent. I did that and then washed the quilt in Biz again and the bleeding was completely gone. Yeah! Good luck with yours.
