Mathematically, the finished block with seam allowances is 14 1/2". It's made from jelly roll strips of 2 1/2" so, 7 finished strips is 14" plus the two 1/4" outside seam allowances.
I am not a perfect sewer and my blocks were around 14 1/4" and I squared them to 14" even. It's my first time using jelly rolls and I don't think I was always consistent on sewing with the pinked edges of the strips. I tried to keep the seams consistent on my squaring up like lining up the seams for the strips at 12" with the lines on my ruler.

Pam, I love the layout that you have chosen. I have never seen a log cabin laid out that way. Thank you for the link to Big Horn Quilts!! I love all of their layouts too-just might have to make me another log cabin soon....

Pam I love your stuff. I really like this star, and like my daughter says, "I pay the cost, to be the boss", yup, would do what my little heart was content with.
You seem so focused with your projects. That is sooo admirable.
Gonna go look this one up...all the feedback opens up your thinking and you get such great info, (K!)...

Nice job. I love log cabins. It is such an easy pattern to put together and makes such a stunning impact. I always have a problem figuring how to quilt it. I made a smaller quilt using the japanese lantern log cabin variation. I love it but couldn't figure out how to quilt it so I did something differnt in each block. I like the Lover's knot variation also.

I browsed pictures of log cabin quilts for ideas too. Most of them seem to be quilted with one line down the middle of each strip, connecting at each corner so it makes a square. I do like treating 4 blocks together, depending on the layout, as one patch for a design.
