I made a yo-yo quilt almost 50 years ago. When I finished the yo-yo top I attached the quilt to a bed sheet by tying it in the middle of every yo-yo. This helped stabilize the quilt but the yo-yos have still pulled apart in a few places. It makes a very heavy quilt. I don't think I'd recommend hanging it at all. I'd be afraid the weight would pop all of the seams.

Here's where my quilt is posted. If you look closely you can see my ties in the centers of the yo-yos.

That is so beautiful! I am rethinking the hanging idea. I will have to talk with my niece when we start working on it, maybe we can find another way to display it.
    Thank you!

I have mine resting very carefully on a quilt rack at the moment. The rest of the time it is on the guest bed. Early years I used it on my bed and I was rather hard on it! Then it was bagged up for years while we were raising our daughters.(I don't think I fully understood what I'd made. Live and learn and I was too young at that point!) Now it's out and being loved again.

I wish you much luck with your project. I honestly do believe tying the quilt to a foundation is the way to go. Otherwise I think it would need continual resewing of seams.

Sounds like a great way to preserve it. It's a beautiful quilt.

Very nice! And what a treasure. And my, what a lot of work she put into it. That is something you don't see every day for sure.

How gorgeous. I was thinking that if this were mine, I would put a pocket (like an envelope with a flap) and put a piece inside with the history of this quilt. All those loving hours would be documented. Love it!

I'm sure it can be preserved in some manner. It is a treasure!

I've only seen yo-yo's made with a backing of some sort. I'm surprised it's not in worse shape than it is now.
