Are these Procion Dyes fade resistant? When I have dyed fibers I have had a problem with them fading when laundered. This has been significant as I was using the fabric for clothing. It is a real pain to dye a brillant magenta and end up later with a dusty rose or something.

Gorgeous. I too love to dye my own fabric. I haven't bought any commercial fabric in ages.

It is about 45" square. The stack of fabric is some of what I started with.
What a fabulous quilt. You certainly met the challenge. Is the site you will look at the Leah Day site? I thought of her when I saw your picture.

Procion dyes are some of the most light resistant and fade resistant dyes there are. If you had a piece that had that much color shift, I would guess one of two things: either the dye was not fixed with soda ash, and thus did not bond to the fibers...and so would just continue to wash out until nearly gone. Or secondly, that WAY too much dye was used than the fiber can absorb. A dark color on most hues is 4% of the weight of the dye. What that means is, if your FQ weighs 44g (like mine) and you used more than approx 2g of dye powder(per fat quarter), then you will have excess. Clear as mud? right?

I had used a different brand but I don't now remember what it was.
