Great job for your first quilt! I think you could even do a different block on the sides only or you could just do a very wide border of the white only! Love it so far!

how about doing the sides, same as you did the bottom? continue the pieces down each side, top and bottom, then the middle of each side piece, just continue a couple smaller pieces of the reds, then use the whites to finish to the bottom od each side...

Maybe ask McDaniel if she has any ideas since she was the one the enspired you to do this beatuiful quilt, and when done name it after her.

I don't think what you suggest would look strange, as you have to accommodate that "V" shape at each end in some way that marries with the sides. Any design problems you encounter can easily be fixed up in the next quilt. You're doing nice work so far. Congratulations.

Another option is to remove the part of the bottom that is more than 4 inches past the end of the bed and then add a 3 inch sash of the rose color around the sides and the end ( but not the top) and then add a 14 inch piece of the background fabric on three sides. Finish by scalloping the 3 edges and bind in the rose on all 4 sides. I have a quilt like this that I bought.

Beautiful Quilt!! and I love this suggestion!

I am not an expert but agree with MadQuilter. It would look quite natural and as mentioned you may not need a border. It's brilliant for your first quilt. Be proud.
