feline fanatic, thank you for all of this information. But we've got to say, that med bottle fix is a spark of genius.

I have a tall cone holder from Joanns. Bought it 7-8 yrs ago with a coupon. Worth every penny & works perfectly.

I'd say Jim is a "keeper".

Cool....I had something similiar made out of wood but yours looks like it would work better and be more sturdy, think I am going to have my husband do this if you don't mind.

This site puts a cone into a cup, but every time the thread comes off the back of the cone, there would be an extra little tug on the thread.

Perhaps what I should have said is that the base of the cup should be wider than the spool. This way, the cup really just discourages the thread spool from tipping over. Sort of like a weeble. It's not actually touching the thread causing resistance.

The main reason I offered options is because some people are adamant about not buying more things / or thread stands in general. I have no idea why though, I typically will buy or make anything that makes my life easier or the end product better. It's just a bonus if I get both out of it.

Perfect! I jumped up from the computer, grabbed a cone, and headed to the "dead pill container" pile. Couple of questions, please.

Does the shape and length of the pill container matter? When I think about it, I think it might. Something running around in my mind about stabilizing the thread holding spindle on the machine. (Love my command of technical terms?) If it is held firm at the bottom of the cone/bottle combination and not at the top there would be vacillation? Yes? And if there was, did Jim do something inside the bottle to overcome that? Or am I being a worry wart? No appropriately sized empty bottle jumped at me when I hit the empty bottle stash. Gonna hafta keep hunting for that bottle with open eyes.

What size cones do you use? I have several different sized ones and occasionally have troubles with the my current set-up and vacillations. Thread is hung up and stopped and you know what happens then.

Thanks a million for your thread and picture and patience.

    Pat
