Jewel Box is only one of the names of that pattern. Eleanor Burns' online video start out by showing a stack of quilts in this pattern made in a variety of fabrics. She calls them all Jewel Box. Some are quite pastel. I'm thinking of the one in the 30s fabrics.

Yours is lovely. Mine is coming along. It's my job for this week. Nothing is ever too pink. Keep it and make your son a new one.

Love your quilt, love the colours. your changes to the colour scheme make it unique. Thank you for sharing.

How boring it would be if everyone used the same colors! Yours is beautiful.

Well done--apparently your "teacher" never heard the rule that if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it! I think it turned out quite well!

Sorry your teacher made you feel so bad. I think your quilt is very pretty! Glad you finished it.

I love it too... the very reason I'm not a thimbleberries fan is how many quilts do you think are out there EXACTLY alike? and, i'm not much of a county fan... that happened to me once to.. .mystery quilt...hate them because I just don't like not knowing what fabric to choose.. then at a retreat once a lady told me after looking at my fabric that I didn't know how to choose fabric... so I said... that's exactly why I'll never do a mystery quilt again.. guess what it was the prettiest one there!!!! She didn't apologize but she did tell me it was pretty.. sometimes we need to remember to say something nice or nothing at all!

Might not be jewel tones, but it's beautiful. There's nothing that says jewel box quilts have to be done in jewel tones. I think the other name is buckeye beauty?
