I don't know about TN, but my grandmother, aunts, and great-grandmother all made at least a few polyester quilts. Mom still has one that her grandmother made, and it's in great shape. I think anyone who sewed in the 60's and 70's had a bunch of polyester scraps and making quilts would be the natural way to use them up. I still remember some of the suits "the girls" made and can id the scraps on the quilts Mom & Dad have.

Yes, we still have MILs polyester scrap quilts made during the early 70s. They last forever! As for the binding (which I assume you have removed the old one), I would use a double folded black one. Deep Christmas red might work but a black binding would set the blocks off nicely.
