I vote #1 put some cubes in blue and a few other colors in there and a couple of borders and I bet you will love it when its together.

The blue star effect is very nice. Are you going to fill in around the edges with the blue? Binding an irregular edge like that would be really tough.

I love the 2nd one. But...I have just started doing stack & whacks lately so am partial to that look. I also like to use some of the fabric whole (before cutting)somewhere in the design so people can see the original fabric. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.
