it is a beautiful quilt, honestly just about any kind of border would look lovely.
but i agree with plain borders instead of any fancy ones, more to frame your design than to distract from it :D
i do think the black frames it nicely, but seems it should have at least 2. maybe a thinner 1 with one of the colors in the design :D

Maybe if you want to have a darker border, pick colors in the quilt and get darker shades of them.

Try a small 1 1/2 - 2" inner border as a resting place then a wider (maybe purple) border. This is a stunning quilt. Love you colors. Very energizing.

wow.. I have a LOT of great ideas now.. I am going to play with it and I will see what happens.. If you think of something else PLEASE share...Thank you all sooo much!!

Quilt - what would you put in the corners if you do your idea on the sides?? I think that makes the block look finished... I love the idea.

I did that to mostly turn your square into a rectangle so you could then put strip borders on it. The additions would just go on the top and bottom, so there aren't corners, per se.

I'm so useless when these questions arise. I like what you've done so far.

I think a dark orange flange between a narrow yellow border and a black outer border would really make it pop!!

I'd suggest a white small border followed by a wider yellow. The white pops the colors while the yellow bookends it since your middle star is yellow.

No matter how you do it, it's really pretty!
