These quilts are fantastic! Like others have said, I don't have any treasures such as that, but I'm going to be working as hard as I can so that changes in our family! I can't believe the condition of these quilts! Thank you all so much for sharing.

I'm involved with a local historic preservation park here in my county, which is an historic antebellum house that is the central structure of the park, which is the Shoppach House. One of the quilts we have there is the one shown below, and it is my favorite in our collection.

It was made by Xalisco Stribling Brents in the 1880s, so is about 120 years old. She was born in 1837 in Georgia, so would have been about 40 when she made this. She died in 1910 at the age of 73 here in Saline County, Arkansas.

The documentation we received with the quilt says that there are 10,875 pieces in the quilt and 169,700 stitches. I doubt that number is exactly accurate due to the roundness of the numbers, and am guessing someone counted the pieces and stitches in one block and then did the math considering the number of blocks. Nevertheless, it is a stunning quilt.

Here's one that I found at a flea market a while back for $30. All hand quilted.

Why is it--often at auctions quilts are mixed in with other 'soft goods' and are given little attention???

Everyone's quilts are just beautiful. I have shown these before, but it has been a while, so I will add them to this thread.

These are three of the quilts I have that my grandmother made in the 1930s. They are on the beds my oldest granddaughters sleep in when they spend the night at our house.

I also have other quilts my grandmother made and some old quilts that I have found in antique shops, at quilt shows, etc.

Marcia--that is the cutest bedroom!! Do you leave the quilts on all the time? The only thing I don't like about having old quilts is figuring out what to do with them. Mine are hidden under a bedspread.

Thanks, Karla. Yes, the quilts stay on the beds all the time. The girls LOVE to sleep under them. I have told them who made them and that they are very old. They think it is neat!

Marcia, those are beautiful! Could we see some closeups of that applique on the left, and the butterflies (embroidery?) on the right? What a great looking room!

These are beautiful quilts-I, too, would like to see some close-ups of the detail work. (This coming from someone who doesn't even know how to post a pix!)
