This is a jelly roll and yardage (Moda Mill House) I bought in a sale, but wasn't too keen on it once pieced - so I thought I would use it as a "practice" for some free motion. I have been working on freestyle free motion on my Janome, as I prefer not to have mark patterns out.
Hence the name - bit of a quilting "Frenzy", but I am very pleased with the result. I recently bought a SewSlip silicon mat and it has made fmq movement lots easier.
The quilt is 60 ins square. I used Hobbs 80/20 because of the close quilting and it is nice and soft still.
Thanks for looking.

This is a practice piece!? You don't look like you need practice. It looks GREAT!!! :-)

KGoodhand 07-18-2010 05:22 AM

WOW!!!! If you are just learning how to FMQ!! You are an amazingly fast learner!!!! Great job!

ann clare 07-18-2010 05:24 AM

I love 60" square quilts. And yours is a beauty!! I use them this way on my Queen sized bed and change them frequently according to the season. Here's a fall 60" quilt used as a topper

If I could only do as well for 'real' as you do at 'practice' ! ! !

Dodee 07-18-2010 05:39 AM

Beautiful !!! Hard to believe you are just a beginner with fm......Michele

Katrine 07-18-2010 05:50 AM

Thanks all. You can see a titchy bit of a blue and white quilt peeking underneath on the 2 of the pics - its a king size, all different sized stars, which I want to heavily fmq - so this one was sort of workout I suppose... it will be harder though as its so big.
This one is the "heaviest" quilting I've done so far.

Mamagus - I agree, 60ins sq is a very versatile size isn't it - can be used on a bed like you said, or a lap quilt. I have one all in lavender shades which looks great on top of white.

I've been doing it about 15 months now, and gradually getting more confident. The hardest thing is deciding what I'm going to do on a piece

mollymct 07-18-2010 05:54 AM

I think your "practice" looks perfect, Katrine! Front and back are lovely. I really like the Moda fabrics and the polka dot border!

feline fanatic 07-18-2010 06:02 AM

You did an awesome job. I would be pleased as well if I could FMQ that nicely with no marking!

grann of 6 07-18-2010 06:03 AM

Great idea, but my big dogs (Great Dane & Rottie) spend most of their time on my bed. So I use fleece blankets I make, and wash them a couple times a week.

MISHNJIM 07-18-2010 06:11 AM

I love the pattern and your FMQ...You did an AWESOME job on both!!

Wow, I like the quilt and your quilting is awesome. It is just amazing. Your practice looks like my quilting after a couple years of practice. Great job and thanks for sharing.

What a GREAT IDEA!!!! I'm going to use that one!

CAROLJ 07-18-2010 07:00 AM

I don't think you need any more practice. I like the quilt, the colors and the machine quilting.

amandasgramma 07-18-2010 07:09 AM

Absolutely STUNNING!!!

Eddie 07-18-2010 07:13 AM

Wow, Katrine, your quilting is spectacular! I love that fabric line, too, I made a quilt for my mother-in-law out of it. Great work, you've made a beautiful quilt.

tcrescini 07-18-2010 07:23 AM

I wish my frenzy looked like that! Wow, awesome job!

Thanks Eddie - I have big problems resisting the Moda lines too - still trying to fight off Rural Jardin, but I may surrender ...

Great job with the quilting.

dsb38327 07-18-2010 08:28 AM

Very very nice. If that was practice fmq you should consider yourself graduated. It is very nice.
