12 Pure Comfort Wraps are done!!!

7 Attachment(s)
Several months ago, someone posted a link to "Pure Comfort Wraps". I talked w/my DSIL (she works at an assisted living facility) and we decided to make them for Christmas for some of the residents that didn't have anyone that visited them. We needed 12. So, my cousin (made 1 2/3), her daughter (made 5), my DSIL (made 3 1/3), and I (made 2)decided to do this. I quilted all 12, and my DSIL bound all of them. So here are some of our pics.

They are beautiful! What a special caring thing you have done in the true meaning of Christmas!

Do I assume correctly that the split in the quilt allows it to go around the person's neck and cascade down the front? What a loving, careing thing to do! Merry Christmas!

Yes. We enlarged it. We tried the first one on and the one on the pattern wasn't comfortable.

This is was a nice thoughtful gesture for you all to do. It makes me sad to see the elderly who have no one to see about them. You will be blessed for reaching out to them. Thanks for sharing.

Homespun 12-19-2012 06:19 AM

How kind and loving of you all!

ArtsyOne 12-19-2012 06:44 AM

I'd never seen a "comfort wrap" - they look to be so pretty and practical. Did you have a commercial pattern from which you worked? I think this may be my new charity project to use up my short lengths of strips that I have left over from other projects. Thanks so much for posting the photos.

what a wonderful thing to do, I may start checking out some of the homes locally to do the same thing. Just to give someone a little comfort when they have no family fills your heart with joy

quilter1 12-19-2012 06:52 AM

What a kind thing to do in the true spirit of Christmas. Could you share your directions please?

SewExtremeSeams 12-19-2012 06:52 AM

I have never seen these comfort wraps but it is a wonderful and very practical idea, especially for somone in a wheelchair. I will have to make one for my Dad who is an Alzheimer patient. Thank you for sharing.

red-warrior 12-19-2012 06:56 AM

God bless all of you for your kindness! They are bright and cheerful and sure to comfort them!

SewExtremeSeams 12-19-2012 06:59 AM

Would you mind giving the dimensions of your piece before you made the cut out to go around the person's neck? Thank you.

Diane007 12-19-2012 07:09 AM

those are all very nice

Here is the pattern.

My DSIL used up the bits and pieces that we had left over from doing several of these, kind of like the jelly roll race quilt, sewed them end to end, then cut them to size. She also used leftover bindings for a scrappy binding. We used 10 yds of fabric that she had planned for the back of her bed quilt, then decided she hated it. We used John Flynn's diagonal backing when we were just a tad short on backing fabric. We are looking for something to do next year, starting right after Jan 1, not October. So if you have any ideas, please let me know.

48" x 58". We cut at the 16th strip. We marked at 4" and sewed 1/4" outside that for a 4 1/2" opening.

I've never seen that. What a clever idea!

gellybean402 12-19-2012 08:45 AM

That was a very special thing for you to do. When my mother was in the nursing home, I made her a quilt and you would think it was made out of gold! She was very happy with it and had to show it to all the other patients. I am sure the receivers of these beautiful gifts will be very pleased with your kindness. God bless! and Merry Christmas!

ScrapQuilter 12-19-2012 08:54 AM

How very kind you are to remember those who feel so alone and need cheer at this time of year. May God bless you all.

joyce888 12-19-2012 06:14 PM

Those are so pretty! I need one of those!

RedGarnet222 12-19-2012 06:54 PM

Great idea !! I have a few ideas to change this up a little. Why can't there be a button loop and button to keep it closed? It could be out of the same bias binding material.

marymay 12-20-2012 04:34 AM

Where do you get the pattern for these. Just love them.

Wow. These are great and what a loving thing you and your family have done.

You reminded me that I have this pattern and stacks of stash so this could be a project for next year. Thank you.

Wanabee Quiltin 12-20-2012 05:46 AM

These are so pretty. I have never seen anything like these before, had no idea how you would use them until I read one of the posts. Still not sure, but will figure it out.
