Here is where we can post all our centers. Have to start the thread really early for all you overachievers!! Enjoy!

Here is Klue's center. It is a paper pieced self portrait. I think she is gorgeous!

kluedesigns 07-18-2009 05:31 AM

sewjoyce 07-18-2009 05:36 AM

Very nice!! Can't wait to see what everyone adds to it!

Esqmommy 07-18-2009 07:38 AM

I have a feeling this is going to be an amazing quilt when it's done. How big is this portion?

bearpaw 07-18-2009 07:38 AM

Klue,

Did you draw that out and figure out the paper piecing yourself or did you do it in a program? VERY COOL!!!

right now its 12 by 16. then i'll add 4 inch NY Beauties at each corner and if i'm doing the math correctly it will end up being 20 by 24.

its a really old design that a friend worked on when she was teaching me computer paper piece design. its based on andy warhol's marilyn monroe but i thought it would work for me - it could be any woman.

buddy'smom 07-18-2009 08:31 AM

Your center will be stunning,, I also could not sleep last night, got up to work on mine and oh, it just wouldn't work up right, so back to the drawing board for me, I'll get it, I've made three of these center before, just stumped????

Beautiful Klue,
I was going to do the unicorn but I found four of my embroidered butterfly blocks I may put together....decisions decisions....
Sincerely,
April

beachlady 07-18-2009 01:57 PM

Klue, you certainly are a NY Beauty. What a nice center. You should post more of your art quilts - would love to see them.

sandpat 07-18-2009 03:57 PM

Klue...because you primarily make art quilts and there are a lot of folks doing the IRR that are more "traditional" quilters...could you maybe throw out some ideas at to what types of rounds might work well with a center such as yours? We of course, don't have groups assigned yet...but I think that such a beautiful, but different center may need for some of us to think outside our boxes...and we might need a nudge to do that

Esqmommy 07-18-2009 04:05 PM

Great suggestion Sandpat! I would also venture to guess, and if I'm wrong..sorry, but I'll bet KLue is expecting us to do what we do best, and not necessarily something that is her style...KLue, you strike me as a very open person in that regard!

kluedesigns 07-18-2009 04:32 PM

i consider all quilts "art" the only difference i've ever seen on this forum is that i have more contemporary tastes and a lot of people here have traditional tastes - but really its all art.

i find the big difference between contemporary and traditional is fabric selection because both use the same blocks (flying geese, 9 patch, drunkark path, prairie points, etc)

i can understand how a traditional quilter can look at this center and wonder what in the world do you do with something like that. once i put on the NY Beauties i think people might feel more comfortable since thats a traditional style block i'm just making it in batiks.

i would like for everyone to do what they consider to be their signature style. this center is a blank slate, there isn't a print, the colors are all neutral and go with any other color (yes, blue, hot pink, and gold are neutrals), it is all batik fabric but that goes with anything too.

the theme is "around the world with my friends" for international and "cross country with my friends" for US - so the theme calls for you to do a signature border.

it could be something native to your state or country (flowers, animals, cultural design, the colors of your flag in whatever pattern you like) or it could be something that defines you as a quilt artist such as doing your favorite block or your favorite style of fabric.

i will be thrilled and honored by all the work done on the centers. i know that it will be in the spirit of love and friendship and that's what makes it special.

if i get a center and i'm stumped i'm going to reach out to everyone for ideas and i hope you guys feel that way too - its fun to work together to create a quilt - it reminds me of the traditional quilting bee.

tlrnhi 07-18-2009 06:41 PM

Klue.....Hot pinks, huh? What about some dragon flies, lizards and fireflys to go with it? :) :) :)

kluedesigns 07-18-2009 06:46 PM

LOL

i love lizards, that geico gecko is so cute and i love his accent.

I so agree, I'm such an old fashioned quilter, I would be afraid of messing that beautiful block up some way.

Ducky 07-18-2009 06:50 PM

Klue, I love your style of creating. You are incredible.

I think this one will go perfectly! :)

ninnie

i think you would do a beautiful job on the center.

i'm sure you know how to make flying geese, or HST, or a 4 patch - those would all make great border designs and would bring your artistic style and personality into the quilt.

What ya think?

kluedesigns 07-18-2009 07:21 PM

He's at my front door.
I showed him the picture of your center and he says he'd LOVE to help out putting borders on it. :)

kluedesigns 07-18-2009 08:22 PM

excellent! i'd love to have him.

do they ever get in your house? my cats would love to chase him around.

Don't you mean he's cute in a glad-he's-on-your-doorstep-and-not-mine kinda way?!? ;-)

My initial panic has settled, and I'm really looking forward to this. I'm even feeling quietly confident I could do klue's centre justice. :-)

Still no final decision on my centre, but have a few ideas I'm mulling over. No doubt I'll leave it till the last minute... nothing like living life on the edge! pmsl

Hm....what do you think? Do you REALLY think I'd let something THAT big into my house? lol I do have the little whitish ones that are all over my house. Even found some eggs in my fat quarter stash.
I'll let the lizard know that you will be awaiting him. He says he's never been to NYC, and has heard the stories of midtown Manhattan at Christmas being so pretty. :)

christmas is the best time to visit NYC - i could just see him wearing a hat and coat and ice skating at Rockefeller Center.

tlrnhi 07-18-2009 10:39 PM

Midtown at Christmas IS awesome! Have been there quite a few times!

Ok, Now I'm trying to figure out my centers. Hubby says I should do some sort of landscape one...yea right! NOT! I'm not THAT good!
I thought about maybe a pretty vase with some flowers in it, but not sure. The one that I have that is finishing up now is a hummingbird on a flower.
Decisions, decisions.

Ok, I have my inspiration for my center. I've been contemplating doing this for a long time now, so I'm thinking maybe now is the time.
Izy sent me this postcard and I think it's adorable. Always wanted to make a quilt like it.

sandpat 07-19-2009 05:02 AM

Oh, thats a cool one Terri! Did you see the kitties I got to put on Steph's last round on the old IRR? I loved doing that!!! Come on...I want to see kitties playing all over your quilt! I'm thinking I'd like to do a more whimsical quilt style this time...with the great sense of humor here on the board...I think it would be really fun. So...I'm thinking!!

sandpat 07-19-2009 05:04 AM

Klue...thanks sooo much for your explanation. I agree that all the ladies here will do a wonderful job. Again, this is a DON'T PANIC kind of thing. The tops all seem to speak once they get to you and it always seems to work out just right! There is of course tons of help here on the board too! Your LQS is a great resource for ideas as well. They love to help out on these!

No, didn't see it!
I'll have to go find it

Hey! Where is it????

Esqmommy 07-19-2009 05:44 AM

Okay Terri - you've officially kept me from ever stepping onto the island of Guam. If one of those things came within 2 feet of me I'd have a new outlook on gun ownership.

And the postcard is fantastic! That would make an awesome center. Just a thought - what if you did it in Black & Whites and put just a splash of color (either the kitty, or a sun or something like that)?? Might be fun to see how others add to it!

Aww...he's just a little one. He's only about 3 feet long. I saw a nice pretty green iguana crossing the road the other day...no camera, dang it!
He was about maybe 5 feet long. I stopped, put my hazards on so the cars would stop and let the little guy cross.

Esqmommy 07-19-2009 05:53 AM

You have a bigger heart than me kiddo. Lizards and bugs give me the eebie-jeebies.
