We're selling our house & moving to Saudi Arabia in the next couple of months.

Hubby has an incredible 30x30 workshop & I have an awesome sewing room that should have been 2 bedrooms, but we had it built as one room.

I am part of a group of women that have been friends & retreating buddies for years. We take turns retreating in each others' homes so I wanted/needed a room that could accommodate 6-7 women sewing on their machines.

I also have a very large stash that I wanted to be able to see, touch & easily access. I had a mid arm machine with a 12 ft table that I recently sold.

We will build another house when we come back. I won't replace the quilter, but I still want a sewing room close to this size.

Thanks for looking, understand that my room is not really this neat, I just moved things from one end to the other when I took the pictures so that it looks neat!

kittenquilts 10-23-2011 08:07 AM

Wow! Now that's what I call a stash! Good luck with your move.

QuiltnNan 10-23-2011 08:08 AM

wow, awesome space

EmbQuilt 10-23-2011 08:08 AM

OMG. Your room is a quilter's heaven! Good luck with your move.

LoriEl 10-23-2011 08:08 AM

Beautiful! Sad day to give that up. It actually looks bigger than some LQS's I've been in!
Good luck in Saudi Arabia! Hope all goes well.

bjeriann 10-23-2011 08:10 AM

Sorry you have to give up a wonderful space like that.

Lacelady 10-23-2011 08:11 AM

How on earth are you going to leave all that? I have a feeling that there are quilters in Saudi you could meet up with, especially as it's too hot to do anything outside for most of the time.

What will you do with everything whilst you are away - and how long are you going to be gone, in other words, do you need a house sitter???

valleyquiltermo 10-23-2011 08:11 AM

So are you storing or moving or selling your stash?
Because wow that would take a lot to replace.
Great sewing studio.

mommessy 10-23-2011 08:16 AM

Wow! Your sewing space is nicer than some quilt shops! So nice!

Elizabeth in Texas 10-23-2011 08:21 AM

We will be gone for 2 years. I am cutting kits to take with me. I will also take some yardage that is grouped for kits that I just won't have time to get cut.

The company will store the rest of it, so when I unpack I'll have wonderful surprises that I forgot that I had. They will pack everything for us. Thank goodness because his shop has as much or more stuff than is in my sewing room! And of course there is the rest of the house.

One of the worst things is that everything has to be put on a valued inventory list. Oh my word, what a chore! I haven't started that yet. I may end up taking more of the household stuff to Goodwill!

Thanks for the nice comments about my dream room & for the offer to house-sit!

How could you ever leave such a grand spacious room!??? I would be in mourning!

fatquarters 10-23-2011 08:24 AM

wow, between the lovely room and the STASH, and the buddies, I would find it so hard to go. Are you taking your stash with you? that would ease the pain.

New experiences are wonderful, so just enjoy, and remember what you have to come home to.

Ditto! Thank you for posting all of the pictures. I enjoyed looking at your room, fabric, and storage solutions. A bright spot in my day :-)

Our next door neighbors are in Saudi Arbia now. They have been there for about 5 months and are coming home in 3 years.

They did not sell their house, it is here waiting on them when they return.

Good luck with your trip. I couldn't imagine making that move.

It would be hard to leave this room as well as the orkshop for your DH If you are just leaving for a few months is there anyway you could just keep the place for that short of time? What are you going to do with all that fabric - I would imagine it would take alot to take take with you!!! You could always sell it here There are many of us that would enjoy it lol Good luck on your venture!!

Beachbound 10-23-2011 08:48 AM

Sad to say my first thought was that I would miss that room more than family!!! Then I smacked myself ;-) That's a great idea to take some premade kits to play around with. Time slips away so fast, you will be home unpacking all of those treasures in no time and it will feel like Christmas. Safe travels & happy returns!

jmabby 10-23-2011 08:51 AM

Too bad you have to give all that up. It will take a long time to replace it. Can you have someone store it for you?

rushdoggie 10-23-2011 08:52 AM

sparkys_mom 10-23-2011 09:16 AM

Wow, you are fortunate that the company will store all that stuff for you. Someone is going to faint when they see the value listed for that stash. :)

deenatoo 10-23-2011 09:19 AM

That is really a dream room....I would be more than happy to house sit for you til you come back!!

I hope you have a good time on your new adventure.

sewmuchmore 10-23-2011 09:49 AM

O' my  I have been in stores that are not that stock or clean. I am crying with

susie0808 10-23-2011 09:54 AM

Wow!!! What a beautiful room! Sorry to hear that your giving it up. But glad to know your preparing kits to keep you busy for a while.

Good luck on your adventure.

moonwork42029 10-23-2011 09:56 AM

Good luck on selling your house quickly so that is one less worry. You have it organized so wonderfully you should be able to fly through the valuation process. At least they will be packing it up for you (will you get to supervise?).

The time will speed by and you'll have a great time making new memories...be happy you get to go with him -- so many would love to be able to be with their mates while they are away...lucky you.

Perhaps you could also have some other kits made up and left with a friend/family to mail to you every few months so you'll have new projects. But of course the markets there will yield such treasures, you may be sending new fabric home from there.

Best wishes to you

cjtinkle 10-23-2011 09:56 AM

Oh bummer! I feel your pain... my hubby's job has done this to us several times!

oklady 10-23-2011 10:00 AM

I hope you will be able to share your quilting knowledge with others in this country and who knows ... maybe learn from them also

connie_1936 10-23-2011 10:00 AM

wvhill22 10-23-2011 10:03 AM
