This is my version of the BOM from Pearl P. Pereira. It was my first experience with raw edge applique and invisible thread. Also the first time I FMQ besides my scarecrow quilt I posted earlier. Learned a whole big lot! I hated the steam a seam 2 suggested because it did not seem to stick very well for all the smallest pieces . Went with wonder under lite but it got a little stiff- tried just the edges being fused and cutting out the middle part of wonder under but got a ridge. If anyone knows of a better product or way please advise me of it.
I have had a lot of inquiries so I am posting lots of pics. Constructive criticism and helpful suggestions welcome. Laura I made the cat a little more alert This is the whole quilt. You can see the center block is the biggest change. My quilt has frogs and skeletons added I downsized the candy cauldron main block The spiders all have red seed bead eyes I tried to quilt in some fun like this spooky hand This replaced the cat head block Can you see the spider web? I redrew the brooms and opened the cat's eyes. So this is the last thing I need to do. As you can see I redrew the witch block a little. But the quilting- do I keep this round stitching that I have started or should I rip it (will it show?) and restitch with a horizontal back and forth sort of hazy like? LOVE it.

OH that turned out SO Cute! I love it. You did a wonderful job. I know nothing about applique to be able to offer you advice though. Just wanted to say how much I like your project!

WOW! Great job! I love the changes you made! I may do that the next time after I get this first one finished. Thanks again for all your help and the pics you sent me!

I have to say you did an amazing job! Great way to personalize your quilt making it your own!!
|
Very nice.

Never saw a Baltimore Hallowe'en quilt before. This is great, very good work. Thanks for sharing with us.
|
Oh my gosh!! That is fabulous!!! Lots of little pieces in there! Great job on the FMQ!!!
|
Love it! Love that you posted so many closeups so we could really check it out. Your FMQ is AMAZING. Love the spooky zombie hand and spiderweb. You are obviously a natural at FMQ! Can't offer any advice on applique as all I have ever used is wonderunder myself. I too find it stiff so don't do too much applique except in a wallhanging.
This quilt is great! |
Laura, Your quilt is absolutely gorgeous. I also am in awe of you creativity and talent. I love all the projects you create and look forward to you posting the results.
You said you used the raw edge applique with invisible thread, what type stitch did you use? If anyone else lets you know of a better way to fuse your fabric please post and share. Wonder job! |
ditto on the "love it"
|
I used smoke and clear invisible thread and two different size zig zags. On my machines they are a 5 and 6- I have Pfaffs.
|
Don"t know if it is appropriate for your need, but you can buy a glue that is for attaching patches. I can't remember the name, got it at Hancocks
|
This is a beautiful quilt. As for the quilting around the witch - I would just stay with what you have started - it looks great!
|
Very, very cute! I don't like Halloween but I would definitely hang that on my wall. Excellent work and I would continue as is with the moon. It looks great!
|
wonderful, great, interesting quilt, I like the round circle quilting that you have started! :)
|
That is a great quilt! Don't know what you started with, but your finished product is wonderful.

Where did you find this pattern? It is so cute. I would love to make one of these next year. I haven't gotten to applique' yet, but this looks like a good challenge. Is a kit or pattern available for purchase? If so, where?

I am not a Halloween person but this is adorable.

Beautiful quilt and quilting! I like the special things you did when quilting, like the spider web and the spooky hand. Very neat!

What a neat quilt
|
I too want to know where you got the pattern from.
My husband's birthday is halloween and I have always wanted to do a BAQ. This seems like a perfect fit. |

Love it...Great job

That is just amazing..... I would love that pattern, but is is a tad too costly and then there would be shipping, custons, VAT etc!

Ok now that I have picked my jaw up off the floor.....and wiped the drool off the corner of my mouth. I can only say...I'm speechless. What a beautiful quilt.
|
I'm just learning this also...I was told to use Heat and Bond lightweight. So far it sticks fine. I'm still practicing my machine blanket stitch using different threads. I took a class and the instructor used the invisible thread but I wanted to try the pretty threads such as either Mettler or Sulky, etc. Haven't decided which I like yet, but the Heat and Bond seems to work fine. You can buy it most anywhere that sells fabric. I tried both cutting the center away and leaving the whole piece and ironing it to foundation. Some of those seemed a little stiff. Probably depends on your fabric. Looks nice when stitched down though.

I love it! Beautiful.
