wow...this is just beautiful! Where do you find your wholecloth patterns? I had a friend ask me just the other day if I had seen any recently at the estate sales and sadly I have not.

I find my inspiration and also some of my patterns in books about the British tradition of wholecloth quilts. Some of my quilts are almost reproductions! Most patterns I have to re-draw because there are no templates in the books and some smaller ones I quilt freehand (like the spirals in the center of the blue quilt).
I also use stencils and change the desings a little or only use them partly. The world is full of ornaments! :)

Beautiful!

katigirl 01-26-2012 01:07 AM

Very pretty. Looks like a ton of quilting time went into that baby.

raedar63 01-26-2012 04:37 AM

Absolutly beautiful! I also love the design.

A whole cloth is one of my dreams. I just am a very poor artist and can not immagine being able to get the design onto the cloth.

WOW This is dropdead gorgeous. I wish my hands did not get so sore from hand quilting. I have one 2/3 finished and hesitate to get back at it. Maybe I should send it to you. (Just kidding)

I have offered many hand quilting workshops during the years and I still do it from time to time. Unfortunately the interest seems to decrease. But I still notice how impressed people are when they see hand quilted work in exhibitions. They don't want to do it by themselves or they feel too unpatient - but they are impressed and full of respect. I think it's worth to show our work, just to let everybody know that hand quilting is still alive! :)

Here are some pictures of my new wholecloth. The size is 75"x75", it's hand quilted and the patterns are needlemarked.
As soon as the winter is over I will take some pics of the complete quilt outside!
Hope you like it!

What more can I add? :D I really admire all of the work you have put into this quilt. It will be a treasure forever. Thank you so much for sharing with all of us today.
