I am trying to decide on a border to finish my kaleidoscope quilt and cannot seem to find anything that really works. So far here are my options. #1 is a light silvery blue, # is a light blue and#3 is just adding more of the dark blue, or maybe I should just leave it the way it is. I'm not too sure about adding a second dark blue border since I have a narrow border to match the sashing. Maybe it would look like an afterthought
You all have such wonderful idea, thanks for you help.

I like third one, wide drk blue
they are beautiful by the way!

nyelphaba 07-07-2011 02:15 PM

#3.

erstan947 07-07-2011 02:15 PM

It looks like there is a tan/brown in the blocks. Maybe use a tan strip instead of the silvery/lt blue strip. Just a thought. Beautiful quilt:)

Flying_V_Goddess 07-07-2011 02:15 PM

I like the third one the best :D

patchsamkim 07-07-2011 02:16 PM

Can you find more of a medium blue...even the light blue seems too light. If you can't find a medium blue, I would go with option 3, that seems the best of the pictures you posted...at least to me.

Raggiemom 07-07-2011 02:17 PM

I like the wide dark blue best.

mammab 07-07-2011 02:20 PM

So far I have not been able to find more of the right shade of a medium blue. That would be my first choice. I have tried a thin strip of a gold/brown like in the circles, but it looks very depressing

grammy Dwynn 07-07-2011 02:21 PM

I am going to assume that you used up all the kaleidoscope fabric (or not enough left over for the wide boarder). That would be my first choice, so my second..... hmmmm.... the light blue.

Sometimes we need to walk away from our choice and come back later. When I give things a few days to digest (with different light and different mind set), it all comes together and I'm happy.

Good luck on your choice!

I like the idea of adding a narrow silver border followed by a wider navy border.

twixbar 07-07-2011 02:24 PM

I like the third.

dakotamaid 07-07-2011 02:25 PM

I like the 2nd with the blue inner, but make it very, very narrow. (1 inch, maybe, JMO). I also like the 3rd.

Dark blue Wide. They look like fine China Dinner Plates, collected together in a display. Beautiful.

jodimarie 07-07-2011 02:31 PM

my vote....plain dark blue. nothing to take away from the main blocks of BEAUTY!!!

I like this idea too.

I like the dark blue border. It makes the plates seem to float. Very pretty quilt!

Dragonfly Nana 07-07-2011 02:43 PM

I am in the minority here but I like #2
think the light blue makes the detail of the blocks jump out of the background.
Whatever you decide...it is a beauty.

I like the third, the dark blue. It makes the kaleidescopes pop! Lovely. If you don't want it to look like an afterthought, can you remove the thin border and just have a wide border of dark blue?

Kimkankwilt 07-07-2011 02:45 PM

#3

Aunt Patti 07-07-2011 02:49 PM

i like the lite blue and then bind it with the silvery blue it is just beautiful.

Linda E 07-07-2011 02:50 PM

I agree with the 3rd choice, wide dark border.

Nettie Phillips 07-07-2011 02:58 PM

Gorgeous.

dphelps 07-07-2011 03:03 PM

I like #3 but with a narrow lighter blue between. This is very pretty.

quiltlonger 07-07-2011 03:04 PM

#3 my vote!

I agree whole heartedly....dark blue looks like a winner to me.

eastermarie 07-07-2011 03:26 PM

I don't know, but it's a beautiful quilt.

New Quilter 07-07-2011 03:27 PM

I vote for the 3rd one...it's beautiful!!!

the dark blue wide border makes the quilt looks elegant... I would definately use that.

GingerK 07-07-2011 04:04 PM

The dark blue is nice but I would love to see a very narrow border of one of the fabrics from your kaleidescopes--something light with some figures in it--about half the width and in place of the light border in #1. Just an idea, but I think it would draw out the colours from the kaleidescope better.

debcavan 07-07-2011 04:06 PM

That is an awesome quilt top.

Definitely not the first one, takes over by being lighter than anything in the quilt

Dotha 07-07-2011 04:12 PM

#3. My personal opinion is that the light strip in the border takes the eye to the border and then the eye stops. With #3, the eye travels around the beautiful blocks. the light border stripe disrupts that and stops the movement.. That is my personal take on it.

Ditto on dakotamaid's comment!!!

collady 07-07-2011 04:28 PM

I think the wide dark blue looks best.

I agree with the tan/brown then a second dark blue.

Jingle 07-07-2011 04:54 PM

I really like the wider dark blue, shows off the OBWs.
Beautiful quilt.

blueangel 07-07-2011 05:24 PM

I like the third one

Jammin' Jane 07-07-2011 05:37 PM

I would like #2 if the blue was just a little bit darker. Otherwise #3.

I would put a strip of the tan that is in your fabric then a blue. Beautiful quilt.
