This is what I'm currently working on. I got the rows all sewn together, but it's not as big as I want yet, so I'm going to do a few more rows. I want to add borders, but I'm a little stuck as to light vs dark, how many, how wide....any ideas?

I really like your layout. Nothing like having the 'blues' but it looks great.
It is really looking stunning !!!!

Love the blues. Just try auditioning light & darks for borders. I think either would probably work.
It's really very pretty and eye appealing the way you did it..
That is just beautiful.
Very pretty! i love the blues!
Nice coloring layout! I agree you should lay out some borders and just see what grabs your interest.
beautiful blues!
beautiful..............love it
Oh your blues are gorgeous
So very cool!
I'd opt for the darkest blue for the border. Sigh. I always do. Look how great the lightest lights look right next to the dark squares on that center diagonal. They're GLOWING. I think a nice wide dark border will just make the whole center sparkle. It's like midnight. However, conversely, if you used the lightest light on the border, you'd get a whole North Pole frigid feel to it. Which could be very interesting. So either extreme, not some value in the middle because that would just muddle the whole quilt. One border. Wide. And matching, not contrasting, binding. imnsho. ;-) ;) |
Beautiful blue fabrics!! Love the pattern. You did a great job.
I love the gradations and blending from light to dark to light - that is a really pretty quilt! I think you could do light or dark or even a mid-blue so I'm no help.
The Blues are truly beautiful!
very pretty, reminds me of the ocean
That is absolutly beautiful! I love blue!!
its gorgeous!
personally i would border with one of the darkest blues then bind with a lighter one... these blues are fun to have |
Beautiful! AND I am in love with your avatar picute quilt!
Beautiful!!! I love the way you put it all together!
Lovely. I like the idea of a dark border only to make the light colors within the quilt stand out more.
I really like this quilt of yours! |
Love it!!!!

Agree, agree, agree, lay out some colors and, depending on the final size you want, then decide width of border. It's a stunning piece of work
Love it!
How about a pieced boarder? Small sq and strip, then flop flop, strip and small sq. Stack them up. Same size as the strips and small squares you have already. Larger squares in the corners. Looks like you have some of it cut already! |
That is gorgeous! Did you take the pattern and do your own color thing, or did the pattern suggest that idea?
BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!! |
What a pretty blue quilt! I would do a narrow white border and then a wider blue and it looks like to me any blue out of the quilt would be quite nice!!
wow...looking really great. Not much help with the borders though..lay out some different ones and see what you think
It's an awesome quilt. You did a wonderful job with layout and colors. Love it!!!
I can see it with a narrow first border in the lightest blue, then a wide one in a darker blue (maybe not the darkest, but close.) |
Wow, that's beautiful!!!!!!! :D:D
I ablsolutely love your quilt! Blue is my favorite color, so I know I'm being partial, but I am really, really attracted to it! I think it wants to come and live with me! It would look nice with the dark blue binding. You can just send it to me and I'll finish it, Michelle!!!
Beautiful!
Oh, I love it. Your layout is perfect!
Wow! That is very striking!
Definitely audition some fabrics for borders. Then take pics and look at them on the computer if you can. You can flip back and forth and one will probably jump right out at you. Personally, I'd probably go with one of the lighter blues for a narrow inner border, then one of the darker blues that didn't have too much pattern for the outer border. I'd audition the binding too once you decide on the borders. Be sure to show us what you decide to do! |
Love, love, love that quilt. I like the idea of the darker border. Can't wait to see how you quilt it... great job!
Very pretty!
wow...very pretty...what do you think about a light border (~2 inches after sewing) and then a larger darker boarder (~4 inches after sewing)... I look forward to seeing the finished product!
Very pretty! Love the blues!
That is one beautiful quilt top
