After hours of trying to fudge and cheat and straighten I am frustrated beyond words. My first inclination is to stick this is a drawer and walk away, but I was really hoping to get this done for our relay for life team.
Honestly, is this thing salvageable? Lori the left side is as crooked as it looks - waaaayyyy off square |
Ummmm, what's wrong with it?
I think you are being too hard on yourself - looks pretty to me!

I'm sorry, but I really don't see anything wrong..or am I missing something? I think it looks fine
Is it off square? Add a border and square from there so you don't lose your points. Looks good to me.
I have looked hard and I see nothing wrong with it. Finish it up and I bet you will like it better. I think it is great.
Yes it's salvageable, it's pretty.
Continue with your idea. |

I don't see anything wrong with it. When you look at it in person, do you think it is an optical illusion that it seems off square to you? Not visible in the picture.
Add a border and bind! Beautiful!
looks ok to me too. not sure where you see it off square.
Yep. They're right. It looks good, it just needs finishing. Maybe a pink border on top and bottom like you have on the sides. Just two straight strips and the top could be done. Sandwich, quilt and bind and your Relay for Life team will love it. :)
I was wondering the same thing. Just needs a little tweeking.

take the pink border off, add a narrow black border and then put the pink back on. Should even things up visually.
no one will notice except you. Go with it.
I think it looks great
sorry, I do see what you are talking about.

I think generally we are the hardest on ourselves. I think you've done a fine job and are waaay too critical.

Its beautiful and looks perfect to me I never have a perfect quilt, its made with alot of love thats all that matters in our house
try adding a small border around the blocks and then the larger pink and bind....... It will be just fine.....
I can see it. Measure it exactly to see how much it's off square. Then trim the left side until it's straight and take the same amount off the right side even though it doesn't need it. Then you can add any borders you want to finish it. It does need a black border on the top and bottom to match the width of the side ones. If you want to add some pink and a black binding after that, it would look good.
I had to look long and hard to find anything I thought needed tweeking. Seriously - I think it looks great! I can kinda see how it looks narrower on the top left - but I'm not sure if its my eyes playing tricks! I think the others are right - once its squared and has a binding on its going to look spectacular!

I don't see a "disaster". I see a beautiful quilt. Just keep on squaring up as you add the borders and I think you'll be fine.

I'm a breast cancer survivor....and I think it's GORGEOUS!!
Absolutely nothing wrong with this quilt!! Get this gal finished!! Sandi |
I agree it doesn't look too awfully un-square in the photo. If you decide you can't live with it the way it is and are willing to undo the rows down to each block, then I may have a solution for you. I recently discovered this square-up method when teaching my 11 year old daughter how to quilt blocks with a wide variety of techniqes over the last 5 months; we ended up with a few wonky blocks that were upto a quater inch off square. Here's what I did to fix it...
Trace onto a piece of freezer paper and cut out a square the intended size of the block. Layer the block, centered on top of the waxed side of the freezer papper, and start secureing it to your ironing board surface with pins. Pin around the outside edges, working from side to side, easing the fabric edges as you go to touch or overlap the permiter of the freezer paper. Once you've gotten it as close as possable, saturate the block with spray starch or Best Press spray. Readjust the pins if necessary to get it to lay flat, and aligned or overlapped with the freezer paper edge, then press with an iron until the fabric is somewhat dry. Remove the pins, turn the block upside-down, and iron again to secure the freezer paper to the fabric. Now with rotary cutter/mat/ruler, trim any excess fabic that overlaps the freezer paper edge; and carefully remove the freezer paper. The block should now stay square long enough to be able to achieve straightly sewn rows. A single freezer paper square can then be reused in this manner for upto 4 or 5 blocks. If your block has points that need to interesect with points in other blocks, be careful not to trim away all of the seem allowance. |
I love your quilt! It's beautiful.
All of the above!
It looks good, it could be the pinwheels that make you think there is a problem.
Doesn't look bad to me
Maybe a small black strip between the pink and the pinwheels? I think that will even things up.
Looks good.
Your left strip looks smaller at the top, did you cut it off center? I would check that then adjust it add your top & bottom border and finish it. Good luck. It looks fine other than that..JMHO for what it's worth...
