I added a few more pics...they are great fun to make

jodimae 04-30-2010 04:06 AM

Such a sweet idea..I bet as she gets them they would be great sewn together to make a wall hanging and eventually a quilt.

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 04:09 AM

I hope to find a neat box for her parents to save them in but did send a plastic plate holder so she can "display" one each wk...son says she moves it from here to there all over the house!

TammyD 04-30-2010 04:11 AM

I love your postcards! What a great rememberance!

montanaquilter 04-30-2010 04:40 AM

those are so sweet!!! i think i'm going to have to try my hand at a few of these. my daughter loves material so maybe i can use some of "her stash" to make something for her to carry around! thanks for the wonderful ideas and photos.

susiequilt 04-30-2010 05:14 AM

They are so cute.
Do you send them as an actual postcard or do you put them in something else?

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 05:47 AM

I put these into envelopes so they will not get soiled and also I have been adding a lollipop and some stickers but you can mail as a postcard but need to have them hand cancelled and they require a regular stamp not a postcard stamp.

dglvr 04-30-2010 05:47 AM

Ahhhh what a great idea. Those are adorable. Are you going to give instructions on making those? You have been very busy.

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 05:47 AM

Oh yes I am sure she would love that...

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 05:49 AM

Well, I could give some info but I did find so much information and tutorials on line..I just typed in how to make fabric postcards in search and found soooooooo much ifno...seems everyone does them a little differently but basically the same...they are to be 4 x 6" for one thing

Lisa_wanna_b_quilter 04-30-2010 06:18 AM

Beautiful! You are a wonderful Grandma to take such time for your grand daughter. She is a lucky little girl.

skavanau 04-30-2010 06:26 AM

I love the pig!!!

nikki128 04-30-2010 06:31 AM

Very nice job Sue I had only seen a few of them. when did you get all those done?

Nikki (angelee)

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 06:34 AM

Thanks...I am lucky grandma to have 4 wonderful little grand daughters...fortunately 3 of them live nearby...was sad to see this one move so far away

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 06:35 AM

I did about 36 of them in a matter of less than an hour I think it was...super fast once you get the supplies out and get started

nikki128 04-30-2010 06:37 AM

yet again you amaze me !

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 06:38 AM

I thought I was replying to Nikki about the matchbook needlecases...lol I did not do all those postcards in that short a time...
I tried posting pics of the needle cases and it didn't go thru...will try again..
The postcards seem to average an hour each to make ...some less some more time

mysacrifice 04-30-2010 06:39 AM

Oh, those are priceless! What a wonderful and thoughtful present. Beautiful!

What a great idea. My grandaughter is in Georgia, dad is stationed at Fort Benning. Elizabeth was 2 in March, I sure miss her....and our daughter and son-in-law too.
Is it okay to copy your idea?

Sweet grandma, how thoughtful you are!
I love the postcards!

wvdek 04-30-2010 06:52 AM

What a wonderful idea. Lovely keepsake for her.

I was thinking how awful it would be if someone in the PO would see them and pocket them when I read you put them in an envelope. Good idea.

paintedquilt 04-30-2010 06:54 AM

Sewww sweet :-P

ScrapQuilter 04-30-2010 07:11 AM

Great idea.....................

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 07:12 AM

Thanks I found it on a coloring book page online and it is perfect since my grand loves the story of the 3 little pigs..also did the big bad wolf for her but forgot to get a picutre of that one

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 07:13 AM

You know that had crossed my mind also .... you never know

skavanau 04-30-2010 07:15 AM

Where did you get the basic pattern for these. They are adorable.

SewExtremeSeams 04-30-2010 07:21 AM

Your postcards are so darling! Can you just send those through the mail without an envelope? I would imagine they have to be hand stamped. Does the postoffice 'like' these? What a treasure.

Did you get these from a pattern or make them up?

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 07:26 AM

I had seen some and wanted to make them so i googled...how to make fabric postcards....so much info out there on how to do them and tons of pictures for ideas once you start looking into it...many are quite arsty and that is not me...I wanted them just simple and cute for a little girl...they are so much fun and great way to use little bits of this and that you have in your stash

Sue Fish 04-30-2010 07:27 AM

You can send them in regular mail but they require a regular stamp not postcard stamp and you need to have them hand cancelled...I put mine into envelopes since I am concerned about them getting soiled and I have been adding lollipop or stickers also

Dancing Needle 04-30-2010 07:31 AM

Gosh those are cute! What a treasure for your grandaughter to collect. I've wanted to make fabric postcards for a long time. Yours have given me the inspiration to give it a go again!

Hi Sue, your local granddaughters might those left on their doorsteps. Although, since you are a neat Grandma I bet you already do very special things for them. ;)
