I like it , and think you did really well for a first go at it. Really you are way to hard on yourself ... I would have paid for quilting like that.

Peggy Jeanne 08-15-2012 04:02 PM

Beautiful comes to mind, not awful!

GramaLaura 08-15-2012 04:03 PM

I looked very hard and could not find one single problem with your quilting..........it's beautiful!!! Love your pattern and fabrics :)

Dyan 08-15-2012 04:56 PM

I don't have a long arm, nor can I afford one, I can't afford to have anyone else quilt for me either.

But I am not sure what is wrong with you quilt I think it looks great!

CajunQuilter2 08-15-2012 04:59 PM

Don't know what McTavishing is but looks pretty darn good to me. I feel the same way about the quilts I make but we know where the imperfections are cause we are so up close and personal with it while quilting it, but other people will never see what we know is there.....so don't be too hard on yourself.

krabadan 08-15-2012 05:07 PM

Don't be so hard on yourself. It looks fine. I like it too.

redquilter 08-15-2012 05:20 PM

I don't know what you think is so awful. I think it's really beautiful but if it offends you that much, I'd be happy to take it off your hands!

BizzieLizzie 08-15-2012 05:30 PM

It is a good first attempt and it will improve with time. At least you were brave enough to even try it! Well done and 1st prize for bravery! :)

nls 08-15-2012 06:28 PM

It's very pretty and the quilting looks great!!

GreatStarter 08-15-2012 06:31 PM

The pictures look great. Don't be so hard on yourself, we are always our own worst critics. I would be thrilled to own it.

I think you did a beautiful job!!! Nice and "flowing" and "wavey" lines. I've tried it a few times, but mine are tight and I can't seem to get the flowing/wavey look you got. I'm not going to give up though. I keep a stack of little quilt sandwiches by my machine and give a try when I have a bit of time.

Great Job!!! And if Ginger gets tired of the quilt, I will take it off her hands....................;)

adyldrop 08-15-2012 06:37 PM

You know on second thought it really is awful. So awful you should send it to me. And i'msure you are so upset that you never want to touch your long arm again and wanna send that too??? Right??? Nuts. A gal can dream; it was worth the shot! But really i'll pm my address to ya!! And i'll send you cookies!! No one else has made as good an offer!!!

BettyJean 08-15-2012 07:53 PM

I think it looks great send it my way if you don't want it! :D

lodes48 08-15-2012 08:41 PM

I agree with all: you're being too hard on yourself. It looks great to me. Put it away for a week, then look at it again. I'm sure you'll say: "I did that!! Woohoo!"

Pickles 08-15-2012 09:04 PM

You are much to hard on yourself that is awesome work, I'll take it if you don't want it:)

justflyingin 08-15-2012 10:11 PM

I don't even know what McTavishing is, so obviously I'm no expert. It's beautiful to me!

vickimc 08-15-2012 10:27 PM

Turned out great. Love it.

linynp 08-16-2012 02:54 AM

Sorry but I like it!! You did a good job!!!

nygal 08-16-2012 03:04 AM

I think it looks beautiful. I never heard of the phrase "Mctavishing" before. What exactly does it mean?

Blinkokr 08-16-2012 03:05 AM

I think it looks terrific, great job and thank you for sharing. Your inspector to just love it.
Have a Blessed day

bobolee 08-16-2012 03:30 AM

It looks great to me! I sure wouldn't let my dog use it! Good work!

Babs194068 08-16-2012 03:30 AM

I am by far not a professional but are we supposed to see something wrong with this. I think it looks great.

You are being too hard on yourself - it looks beautiful!

promenades 08-16-2012 04:05 AM

Like all artist, you are your worst critic. The quilt is beautiful!

Gretchen 08-16-2012 04:09 AM

First of all I think it is beautiful! Both the quilt and the quilting! We are our worst enemies.... my friend once share this advice with me ....."if you were ridding a horse past your quilt would you notice what you may feel is an imperfection? If not then let it go!"

twinkie 08-16-2012 04:13 AM

I feel you did an excellant job. I would be proud.

homebody323 08-16-2012 04:17 AM

I think you did wonderfly well. I do McT quite a bit on my quilts, it's a blessing for backround quilting an the only problem with it is that I have to struggle to leave enough open space when using it on quilts so I don't get that board effect. Just keep doing it, soon it will be your favorite.

janegb 08-16-2012 04:17 AM

I loved
this quilt. You are much too critical of yourself...

calicojoan 08-16-2012 04:22 AM

I think it looks fabulous. Why is it, that as quilters we can't seem to find the beauty in our own work??? I had the very same feeling on my first attempt at McTavishing, and everyone else loved it! :) Your on your way to a great quilting career, and don't doubt it one bit!

MaryAnnMc 08-16-2012 04:25 AM

I'm not sure what you think is wrong, it looks great to me. But I understand the feeling, so just keep practicing. You did say it's your first, right? So be confident you'll do better next time. And if you can't beat to look at this one, it's welcome here anytime!

OH! Dee! I just saw that you're in Syracuse! That's where home is for me, I'll be up there in November. Who knows, maybe I'll run into you at a quilt shop somewhere.

DebbieG 08-16-2012 04:26 AM

I'm looking for the awful....oh there it.....nope that's not it!! It's beautiful!!!

glorcour 08-16-2012 04:45 AM

I'm with Ginger - I like it too. Great job

cjackaitlin 08-16-2012 04:56 AM

Looks great to me, you are to hard on yourself, lighten up. Thanks for sharing your beautiful quilt.

MimiBug123 08-16-2012 05:14 AM

Evidently, we aren't looking at the same quilt! This one looks great and you should be very proud of yourself!

lfletcher 08-16-2012 05:30 AM

I think it looks good. I was very nervous the first time I branched out from pantos too, but when I look back at that custom job, it's not so bad after all. I think you're being way too hard on yourself. Wait a couple of days and then look at it again. I think you'll find that it's pretty good after all.

sherryl1 08-16-2012 05:39 AM

Oh,it doesn't look as bad as you think.Mctavishing is hard.I always have to do too much backtracking.

Pieces2 08-16-2012 05:45 AM

Love the pattern and a great looking quilt. I am not a LAQ, so I don't know what McTavishing is. But it looks goood from here. :)

tildiemae 08-16-2012 05:47 AM

Your workmanship is great! I agree with everyone else that you did a wonderful job in quilting!

callen 08-16-2012 05:51 AM

Are you talking about the quilt in the pictures that I just looked at ???? To my eye & I am certainly not as experienced as most people on this board but it looks FABULOUS to me. If you don't like it, I will send you my address & you can send it to me !!!!!! LOL It is lovely.

ruck9085 08-16-2012 05:51 AM

Color me dumb, but I don't even know what Mactavishing is, so the quilt looks perfectly fine to me!
