I did frame my certificate which is proudly on display in my sewing room. :) Karen was SO nice as were all the teachers I had at the Machine Quilting Today show.

what class were you in Christine? i took Fridays class. perhaps we met there!

Wow, I can't believe all the comments! Thank you so much everyone for all your encouragement. I will definitely have to keep trying this design. Maybe I just looked at it to long. I put a binding on it today and I still can't find the beauty in it. I have quite a few other quilt tops with applique in them that I have been putting off doing until I can learn some of these fillers. I hope I will be happier with the next one.

chickadeee55 08-16-2012 05:49 PM

Are you kidding! It looks beautiful, good choice of a quilt to use for the first time trying something. Your quilting made that quilt pop and I think the pattern of the quilt helped your quilting. Very nice.

captlynhall 08-16-2012 05:56 PM

I don't know what McTavishing is and I am not a machine quilter, but it looks pretty good to me. I read somewhere, maybe here, that if you give your quilt to a non-quilter they will never know the difference. I notice all my mistakes, never had anyone else do so. Keep improving for your own satisfaction, but don't beat yourself up.

margie77072 08-16-2012 06:31 PM

It's great! I don't understand why you think it looks awful.....so pretty!!

sailsablazin 08-16-2012 07:23 PM

OHHHH! I love the colors. Which pattern is it? I really do like stars--guess I don't see many errors, but maybe not sure what I am looking for....I can give you my address if you REALLY don't like it...lol...

hcarpanini 08-16-2012 07:29 PM

I think it looks great! Keep practicing but do it on paper. I tell my students to put paper into a plastic sleeve protector and use a dry erase marker. Find a pattern for the Mctavishing, enlarge it and stick it in the sleeve. Your doodles become your designs. Good luck. It's a beautiful quilt!

5moose 08-16-2012 09:09 PM

Beautiful! What is the name of this pattern Please

ctmhjenn 08-16-2012 10:01 PM

You have got to be kidding me!! That is BEAUTIFUL. I would love to be able to do this. The quilt is gorgeous.

BrendaK 08-16-2012 10:05 PM

Well, I think that it is beautiful. BrendaK

Yes! Friday afternoon's class! I sat way up front in the left corner when we were still at the tables. I, too, was impressed with how humble and down-to-earth she was. It was my first time to go to that show and my first time to take classes at a show, but I will definitely go again. It was a great experience!

mermaid 08-17-2012 03:36 AM

Jeez, that looks pretty good to me! But then, I'm still quilting in the ditch and practicing FMQ! Keep working on it.

It looks pretty nice to me. I am sure you are your own worst critic so relax and enjoy the learning process. Our guild motto is "Finished is better than Perfect." Keep up the good work!

What is "not so good"? I like what I see. It pleases me. When I would look at it, it would make me smile. Are you being a way tad too hard on yourself?

Tell you what, I will send you my address, etc. Deal????

Seriously, it is beautiful!!!!

Pat

sewingtchr 08-17-2012 06:38 AM

I have to agree with everybody else - what's awful about it? I haven't even attempted - I'm still trying to get better at ruler work! LOL You did an AWESOME job!

Cleodaisy

My thoughts exactly... Ginger has exquisite taste! I love this quilt, every single thing about it. The pattern? Fabulous! The colors/fabrics? Gorgeous! The quilting? Spectacular! I think you did a great job!

dlux 08-17-2012 12:25 PM

Your quilt is beautiful, don't be too hard on yourself. As to McTavishing, I've heard a lot of definitions, but what, exactly, is it. Define the term for me, please.

lpsewing 08-17-2012 08:13 PM

I think you did fantastic quilting your quilt.

mom2boys 08-17-2012 09:03 PM

I think your quilt look great!!!

Anastasia 08-17-2012 10:14 PM

Agreed. That looks amazing. I have no idea what McTavishing is but all around that looks awesome and perfect and I agree that you're probably just being overly critical. But then again, if you're trying to enter it in a show I can understand but still.. it's amazing.. wait.. It's soooo bad, you should send it to me never to be released into the world again.. I'm a hermit and too new at this to notice any flaws so it's only suitable for MEEEE. Yea.. that's it.. let's go with that.

ShirlR 08-18-2012 01:20 AM

Well, I think it's beautful! I like it!

IBQUILTIN 08-18-2012 11:51 AM

I think you did very well for a first attempt. Remember, we are always our own worst critics
