It Grew In The Making!
 

This quilt began as an experiment in making hourglass/QST blocks. Then, I added four-patches. Then I added some more four-patches. Then I added a border. Then I added another border... Let's just say it grew improvisationally. http://forum.missouriquiltco.com/ima...icon_smile.gif

I like the way it turned out ( I love red in almost all its incarnations), but I wonder if the color combinations are too radical for the average bear? I was planning to give it as a gift, but I don't want to scare the recipient to death! I really would like your honest opinions here--if it is too radical, I'll keep it for myself and make another for my friend.

I did a sneaky thing. I posted the quilt on Facebook, and the friend I made it for (a surprise gift) said she loved it. What a relief! :o She will be really surprised to get it in the mail next week.

Well, it certainly did grow to be a beauty.

It's beautiful. I would love getting as a gift. Don't you just love adding this and that, and the next thing you know you have a beautiful quilt.

I think it works very well. The floral prints pull the red and pink together, thus unifying the effect. The dark makes the whole quilt stunning. Well done and I admire the your unusual choice of colour combination, it has paid off with dividends. Just my personal opinion.

I'm so glad you did that sneaky thing and got the response you wanted! I was about to say I think your "radical" color scheme works. Ordinarily I find it's a risk to combine reds and pinks except on Valentine's day, LOL. But your floral fabric has pink in it and to me it looks like you have a scarlet and a deep pink in the hourglass units. So the border really works. The backing is gorgeous, too. Bet you're "tickled pink" to give your friend this quilt!!

Well, it may all hinge on the friend you want to give it to. If too "radical" for the intended friend, give it to another who would welcome the more lively colors. I like it and as I see many on the board also like the color choices.
