Sewhappy57 in Alaska (Thank you so Much Terry!!) sent over six lovely fat quarters all with a 'creative woman' theme :D Here's how the story evolves.....................
Chapter One I just wanted a quick fix, nothing too difficult as time is of the essence for me at the moment, so searched the web and found this free big blog quilt. :D Excuse the ripples, it has been folded up. I did iron it when I finished..honest!! |

Chapter two.......
Then came the problem what about the backing, I had nothing at all that would do, so I decided what about using all the left overs, if I have a rummage in my stash I might just be able to find enough coordinating fabrics..... So this was intended to be the back.........it took twice as long as the front and I think I like this better :D |
So do you think it deserves to be a quilt in it's own right?
|
I see two quilts too.
|
Looks like the back can be the front and the front can be the back.
The back is cute. Isn't funny how a small project grows into a bigger project. |

I think I will make them into individual quilts, and on the big block quilt I can practice my quilting skills in all those open spaces I was thinking.........
Now the other one will be a booooger as some of those fabrics are on the diagonal and are abit 'puffy' in the centres ..... |
They are both great Izy!!!! But , yeah, it deserves to be its own quilt!!!!! :D
|
You are so right. They need to be two quilts. Love them both.
|
Melissa :D
I think the reason I am not so keen on the big block is the way in which the pattern called for the laying out of the edge pieces to make it look like a border....it's just too solid and I just might end up pulling this apart and making it totally random.....what do you think?? |
I see what you mean, I like the way the edges frame the center but it does seem to need something. Random might be the thing!!! :D
|
ORRRRRRRRRR
Maybe a scrappy binding?? I sometimes do that with quilts that are to "something" to please me. I love BOTH and think they should be their own quilts, they are begging to be individual. Hugs, Sharon |
I see at LEAST 2 quilts. If you like ripping, go ahead. If I were the one doing it, I'd grab my big, long ruler and rotary cut those Big Blocks apart. Don't scream at me - it IS a scrap quilt, after all, and no quilt police are going to measure to see how big every little piece was SUPPOSED to be. Then you can just play with the layouts again. You might even decide some kind of sashing is the answer - but playing seems to be what you need to do.
|
Two quilts, definitely! Dig in the stash and go crazy (ier)!
|
Absolutely - two quilts. I Love them both (especially the "back")
|
Definitely two quilts :D I like both of them!
|
Love them both, plent of blue and red, love it.
jane |
Both are awesome Izy and I now you will come up with something clever to do to them. Great to see you on here!! Not the same without you!!!!!!!!!!
|
Very pretty!!
|
I likey them!
Izy...there's no such ting as a "quick sewing fix" for you. lol |
Wonderful Izy! I kinda like the 'around the corner' blocks on the big block one - they sort of contain the center. Maybe you could just redo the border parts in between those to be more scappy?
And the "back" quilt definitely deserves to be a quilt on its own too - it makes me smile! :D |
Definitely two quilts!
I looked at the big block and I think that if you do a smaller scrappy border around the outside it will really pull out the scrappy look of the center and downsize the plain-ness (how do you spell that? plainness?) of the current outside border. Can't wait to see what you do! |
Great Scrappy! I love both sides! I'd use the back for the front!
|
:D Thanks everyone for your imput, you know I appreciate all your thoughts
As part of the pattern (It was a fat quarter pattern) you cut a strip off each fat quarter (16 of them) to use for a scrappy binding, I am wondering whether to use these with the few scraps I have left to do another border on the big block, then use a plain fabric for the binding. My problem is shortage of fabrics, I have to be frugal and make do and mend, the navy blue polka dot on the wonky loggy wotsit was given to me last week, and was a double bed sized platform base valance, a good quality although a cot/poly blend, there will be enough for the back too!! :- |
Love them both Izy, but the wonky log wotsit is my fave! I think the big blocks will be fine if you quilt the beejeepers out of the larger patches. I like your border idea - using the strips intended for the binding.

Both very nice quilts and you were also very productive
|
if its too puffy just quilt really heavy. do a meander and go crazy. LOL...love giving the stash a workout don't you
|
Two quilts. And both are great.
|
Definately two quilts!! I love what you did for the backing as a separate quilt!
Kyia |
I am with the 2 quilt brigade Izy, well done.
See you Tuesday or not ????? Elle |
I like both of them also. I would leave them as two quilts.
|
Looks like it HAS to be two quilts now doesn't it
Yes Elle I am coming to class tomorrow, I sent you an email.... |

Sharon Sharon I will hunt it out and let you know :D |
The free pattern came from Quiltmaker.com, it's called Afternoon Tea and takes 16 fat quarters if anyone wants to do it :D
|
Love your scrappy quilt tops izzy. I am glad you are making them inot two quilts.
|
Your work is amazing!! The two quilts will be just lovely when completed.
|
ok, sounds like two quilts it is...now are you asking us, what we think you should do about border, OR, what we would do, lol?
I would put some applique on big block outer border. The scrappy log wosit, is great as is, needing it's quilting of course. :D P.S. don't mind me, I would applique the world, if it would hold still. |
Oops...missed this one until now Izy...I like both and am glad you are going with the 2 quilts. Now just how in the world did you think you could get a "quick" fix?
