Labyrinth with Flowers?
3 Attachment(s)
I have been inspired by the Labyrinth quilts on this board and have decided to make one. Here are a few of my choices, tell me what you think.
The Labyrinth in this pattern uses a light and dark fabric for the actual maze and white for the top and black for the depth. I picked three sets of fabrics. A leafy fabric for the dark and a light flowery green for the light; another flowery fabric and a dark leafy green batik; a multi blue fabric with dragon flies and other bugs for the light and a purple (Patrick Loose) for the dark. I have place a black strip on the dark fabric as the black must be the darkest fabric. The white is not real white, it's sort of, off white. Which set do you like the best? I might make a block out of each set and see which one I like the best. I do like the buggy one real well lol. |
I pick the #1 but I thing puple make evething better HAHA. they are all great choices I would have a hard time making a choice to.
#1 because I love anything with purple!!!!!
Ok going for the purple lol, going to make the A block and post it.
I just finished the Labyrinth Walk quilt and used Stonehenge non-floral fabrics. will be interested to see your take on it with florals. It's a fun quilt to make but take their suggestion about labels of all cut pieces to heart as it makes it easy to pick up the right piece when you need it.

I love the one with purple, however I love anything with purple.

Wow, this is tough....I like all of them; but I would just have to use the green floral with the darker green batik in the center photo.....probably because I love earth tones the best. All will look wonderful. I hope that you show a photo of the combination you decide upon. I will wait with great anticipation for the finished product as well.

I too am a purple lover so there's my vote. But really they all look good. I too have not seen this quilt made with florals so would be anxious to see it when you are all done. Please share with us so we can drool.

I finished one block, the A block. I had to see if the fabric choices would work. I think it did, I can see dimension.
All the strips have to be marked, I only cut enough for one block, just in case it didn't work. I wish the purple could have been just a shade lighter, but never mind, I like it. |
I like the first two sets the best.
The purple looks black but it is night here and I can see the purple. I will take a pic outside tomorrow.
Beautiful. I would love to see blocks with the other fabrics. Any chance of that? I know that whatever you choose it will be great. BrendaK

I always enjoy seeing what you are working on. Keeps me inspired to try new things.
Beautiful! I look forward to seeing more.
Great choice of purple, it enhances the floral print very nicely! Please post when you finish, can hardly wait to see it!
Love the completed block. That's the combo I would use.
Tough choice! I like em all! I would probably do like you said and make a block of each to see!
i loved the blue your block is great!!!!
Good choice. Nice block.
I so want to make this quilt. I will be following you to see the finished quilt. Beautiful fabric no matter which you pick.
You know this quilt is not really hard to make. It's just strips with half square tri's sewed to the ends of the strips, some black etc and then they are sewed together with the white strips. I will posts more pics as I am doing it. I will start block B in the green set.
#2 or 3 is what looks best to me.
I say make a block of each to see which one you like the best.
LOVE the second set of fabrics...
Nice work. good for you.
Very beautiful block. This is on my bucket list and it may move up to the top of my list! lol I have seen pics of this quilt made up on this board but I am unable to locate a pattern. Do you have any info on where I could purchase the labyrinth pattern? Any help would be appreciated.

Block B. As promised, I used the second choice fabrics of greens and I really like it. Block B was a bit more work that the A block but one has to be careful and recheck everything twice.
I cut a bunch of the white strips and just had them to the side for when I needed them, I would just cut what I needed. It is important to be real precise. Use the same brand ruler to cut. When adding the half Sq tri's, make sure to check the pattern so these are place like the pattern shows, it's easy to put them on the wrong end and so on. When cutting the HST to add to the strips, Instead of cutting at 3 7/8 squares as listed, I cut them at 4. I folded them in half and pressed. I then folded and pressed the strip end to match. I then put the square on top of the strip, lining up the pressed creases. The square will hang over the strip. Now sew the middle seam and then I cut off the extra hanging over, measure the strip and cut off that extra piece. I do this to because when sewing on the bias, the fabric tends to pull in and distort just a bit, but by doing it this way, I find I get a better looking strip. And BTW, I cut all the strips on the straight of grain. That eliminates stretching of the strips when sewing. The first pic shows everything labeled, which is very important. The second pic shows two areas of section and pic three shows them sewed together. Again, check the pattern to make sure. The most time I took was checking to make sure and I didn't rip at all this time lol. Pic 4 shows several section all marked, section 1,2 etc. The last pic shows the two blocks together. I will make the next block out of the third choice and then I will pick which one I am going to finish. |
That is going to be fabulous ! Great choice. I would like to make this pattern, but lack the confidence.
I am not going to do the third choice as I like the above two more and now I can't decide which one lol.
I don't have a clue about this pattern but I like the purple (black?) with the blue the best. It looks like you could just step into the block and walk down the corridor. What an illusion of depth perception! Love it...
