This was a round robin quilt that I made with my mom and a group of ladies. ( Round Robin) means that I made the center square and then past it on to the next person, every month that we got together we past our quilts around to do the next row never seeing your own quilt until it was all done. So I never saw my quilt again till it was the size you see now. Every month I had someone's quilt to work on and make bigger. When I got the quilt back, one year later, I was so excited to be able to custom quilt all over it. I bought the backing at my local quilt shop and got started. After getting 20 inches into the quilting.... I FOUND A HOLE IN THE BACKING. There is nothing for me to do but finish the quilting and just patch it later.

Most of the quilt. It is a Calif. King.

sorry about the hole but it sure is a pretty top!

hperttula123 01-06-2011 08:56 AM

Sorry to hear that :(. It's on the back, so is that a good spot to put a label over it? Your quilt is so beautiful. I wouldn't let it get to you.

charismah 01-06-2011 08:56 AM

That is such a sad story. BUt the top is just gorgeous!

raptureready 01-06-2011 08:56 AM

Just think of it as the first love spot. Most quilts have to be loved a long time before earning a love spot patch. And at least it's on the back. I would, however, if it's a manufacturing defect, take it into the store where I got the backing and ask for at least a partial refund.

quiltinggrandmaca 01-06-2011 08:56 AM

That is a beautiful quilt. So sad that the backing had a hole in it. Hopefully you will be able to patch it up so that it doesn't show.

MamaBear61 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

It turned out beautifully. It is really too bad about the backing, but I am sure you will come up with a solution.

Lori Peercy 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

It's beautiful! So much talent in one group. Hope you are able to fix without much trouble, where is the hole?

Frankie 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

What a miserable shame that it wasn't noticed before. BUT the front is gorgeous. Your quilting is really beautiful.

Ramona Byrd 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

Is there a reason why you can't patch it first? Seems to me that would make it disappear if you match the backing fabric closely.
It's such a lovely piece of art that no one will do much careful examination of the back. It's the front that catches the eye.

kwendt 01-06-2011 08:57 AM

Boy, that's a fabulous quilt. I'd just applique on the back or something... maybe a list of the names of all the ladies who worked on it...

Maggiemay 01-06-2011 08:58 AM

Your quilt is beautiful & so is your quilting. I have always admired the round robin quilts on this board. Sorry about the hole in the backing! Hopefully it is one of those things that only you will notice once you decide how to patch it!

M.E.H. 01-06-2011 08:58 AM

OH WOW!! That is a great looking quilt. I hope the hole is a small one.

Joanie2 01-06-2011 08:59 AM

I'm so sorry to hear about your backing having a hole in it. I hope it's not too big and you are able to patch it fairly easily because the front is simply stunning. I have participated in several Round Robins and have never received anything nearly as lovely as yours. Those in your groups, from what I can see, took their time and their imagination to each make the round look complete. It all flows well with nothing that stands out. It's just a beauty and your quilting is wonderful as well. Good luck and let us know what the mending results are when you are finished.

dlspeed1 01-06-2011 09:01 AM

That is cool, hole or no hole, it is still your work of art and a beautiful at that....:)

Fiber Artist 01-06-2011 09:01 AM

I'm sure you can fix it .It is sooooo beautiful!!!!!

lovingmama 01-06-2011 09:02 AM

Very beautiful quilt!

Lynneander 01-06-2011 09:04 AM

I'm so sorry to hear of the problem with the backing; the top is beautiful!

Sewsweet 01-06-2011 09:08 AM

Nice quilt, you do good work.

Candace 01-06-2011 09:11 AM

Yup, that's what labels are for!!

Carol Carter 01-06-2011 09:11 AM

Sounds like you have a place to put a label. Beautiful...

Maia B 01-06-2011 09:12 AM

Beautiful quilt! Colors both serene and uplifting. Excellent borders. Sorry about the hole, at least it's on the back. If it's not in the right place for a label, how about a star, or a cascade of stars, one of which just happens to cover the hole?

QultingaddictUK 01-06-2011 09:14 AM

What a wonderful quilt, as far as the hole is concerned can you appliqué your label over it  I am inclined to use my labels for such horrors.

kkbrand 01-06-2011 09:14 AM

Hey why dont you make your quilt label and cover it over the hole?

rosemaynes 01-06-2011 09:19 AM

Thank you all for your positive notes. The hole is 20 inches down from the top in the center. To put the label there... isn't the label to go in the bottom corner? As for the hole, I will just patch it, and I can hide it, it's just that I will know there is a hole.

Chele 01-06-2011 09:21 AM

Sure is beautiful! You'll forget all about that hole in no time.

kat112000 01-06-2011 09:21 AM

Stunning quilting!

Margie 01-06-2011 09:26 AM

Gorgeous top! Imperfections/accidents are an opportunity to be creative. Remember...necessity is the mother of invention. I am sure you will find a way to turn this minus into a plus :)

BizzieLizzie 01-06-2011 09:45 AM

It's a lovely top. Sorry to hear about the hole in your backing fabric but that can be hidden with your quilt label maybe?

RkayD 01-06-2011 09:58 AM

What a beautiful quilt! Hopefully the hole is a small thing. =)

nativetexan 01-06-2011 10:04 AM

oh my goodness. well it's a good place for a label or some sort of applique fitting to the front design.

azdesertrat 01-06-2011 10:07 AM

You could take a cut out of a heart, and applique it over the hole.No one has to know that it wasnt mwant to be there.Just more love in your quilt!

Mariposa 01-06-2011 10:10 AM

Your quilt top is beautiful! The patched spot on the back won't be noticed! :)

I didn't know there was a set position for the labels, I never put them in the corners for baby quilts, each to their own
:-D

quiltlonger 01-06-2011 10:26 AM

It's a Round Robin so patch/label could start in middle of quilt too, why not it's your quilt now so lovely

Ditter43 01-06-2011 10:30 AM

That is beautiful and the quilting is top notch! I had that problem once. I put a patch on it before quilting and it was hard to find after the quilting was done.
I hope the hole was small enough not to be a problem. I love the quilt...... :-D

amma 01-06-2011 10:41 AM

WOW!! I love this quilt! What a talented and creative group :D:D:D

Kara 01-06-2011 10:43 AM

Sorry about the hole.
But it is a beautiful top!

suebee 01-06-2011 10:46 AM

Really beautiful quilting.

Patti 01-06-2011 10:47 AM

Every one will be too busy looking at the beautiful top, they will never notice the hole in the back!!! Gorgeous!!!!
