What a wonderfully perverse sense of humor.

My DH and I finished our taxes yesterday and somehow this was especially funny to us. I do suspect that your fabric stash and sewing machine are under surveillance by the authorities (quilt police, to be precise).
|
MadQuilter you are a wonderfully sick woman!! I love your KSBS!! I agree, Sue on the traintracks, or maybe a guillotine??? I haven't enjoyed a post as much as this for a long time. Keep 'em coming!!
|
How funny, you are a genius.
|
That is going to be one warped quilt! lol
|
I like all your blocks and embellishments -- very funny and clever. But I'm sad, too. I love Sunbonnet Sues! She always brightens my days!
|
Sun Bonnet Sue-the only way I like her!!!!!

It started as a swap but in my mind the KSBS project had some more potential Here are all the finished blocks so far. I still have 4 more to embellish. Well, she still needs some arrows in her chest but I have not figured out how to do them properly.
This is my nod to Hitchcock: Sue meets The Birds. |

So my question is who do you give the quilt to? Hopefully someone who will not have nightmares from the quilt. My one daughter would love them and her husband!

Hanging in the living room, it will certainly set a mood.
|
I am glad that so many of you understand my "off" way of looking at life.
As for the people who don't like it and don't appreciate it. They were most likely not my target audience. I cannot hurt anyone's feelings without their permission. So if you choose to be offended. enjoy your righteous indignation. I do! |
Those are cute in a macabre sort of way.
My only exception is to her meeting her demise by the hands of the Sioux. We usually don't hang out by the "Loo". |
I've always loved Sunbonnet Sue. Your blocks are so creatively done! Don't normally like "blood n guts" but you have done a superb job. Think you might want to consider a second career as a cartoonist.

I don't get it. Why is there such a fascination with "killing," or whatever, such a cute little iconic quilting figure? I saw some examples of this genre a while back, and I didn't get it then, either. Oh, well. To each his own, I guess.

I have never heard of bad Sunbonnet Sue or anything like it. Sure opens a world of opportunity. You are soooo talented in spite of having a warped sense of humor which I appreciate. Thank you.
|
FANTASTIC !! The only Sun Bonnet Sue's I've liked. What a great imagination you have and what a good job you did fabricating them.

Apparently there are several versions out there on ways to kill poor Sue. And from what I found out she is a serial killer as well, which probably explains her demise. ...haha |
hope this will be show and tell at guild. want to see it "live".
pat |
OMG!! That is too funny. You are a sick woman and I like that about you!
|
Those are just something, you did a great job. Made me chuckle!!
|
These are hilarious. Don't know whether I'd spend so much time on them, but certianly appreciate that you do. You've done a great job.
I kept looking at the one with the birds and finally realized that was an eyeball! It reminded me of when I went to the musical "Sweeney Todd" and people gradually realized during one of the songs what the pies were made from. You'd hear these groans coming out of the audience all through the song as people figured it out. Thanks for the laughs (and I love Sunbonnet Sue) :) |

Good for a smile and a chuckle! I'd love to be a fly on a wall in about 100 years when someone pulls this quilt out to look at it! ROFL
|
Oh, how evil! But must say they are the best of fun!

I can hear them now......."What a bunch of sick people. Let's out do them!!...LOL" |
Madquilter, you are a very warped person in need of serious help. That being said, loved the blocks, they are not only clever they are very well done. Have you seen "Sunbonnet Sue's True Story" by Linda Cantrell? Her "Sunbonnet Sue Goes on Jerry Springer" block has been going thru my head since I first looked at your work. Great minds think alike. How about Sue falling from a trapeeze? Or buried under her fabric stash?
|
Love them all, so funny and creative. I've never seen these before, sure gave me a much needed chuckle!

I actually have some more ideas. The shower scene in Psycho came to mind this morning. And then I want to put her in a rough play scene with Raggedy Ann, Raggedy Andy, Strawberry Shortcake and the Sock Monkey where they have SBS by the limbs and are tearing her apart. I have no idea where these thoughts are coming from. I'm really not a violent person. hehe |
OMG, those are the most hilarious things I've ever seen. Poor Sue. Don't you feel guilty for killing her off? So funny.

Unbelievable. Love all the detail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Outstanding creativity....I may just have to make a special trip to Elverta, CA to see this quilt!! Let us all see the finished quilt.
I also like the idea of SBS being done in by a 'quilt'otine (guillotine(sp?)). |

There are other quilters with a warped sense of humor out there. I just found this picture of a quilt from a show a couple of years ago. A guild had a challenge of creating a block showing how Sue met her demise. The winner of the viewers' choice received all the blocks. This is what she made.

I'm sure you can round a few of them up here on this thread And .... how about "Get a Clue Sue" ... she can be done in by Colonel Mustard in the conservatory with the lead pipe .... Oh this is soooo much fun!! |
Not knowing much about this character, i did a little research. Sue was rather popular during the Great Depression - some writers have attributed her innocence and demeanor to bring hope and sunshine to people during those difficult times. ...
Sue became popular again - not in a good way- during the 1980's and the women's movement. The Seamsters Local #500 of Lawrence, Kansas vented their rage at the state of women’s affairs by killing her off in a group quilt called The Sun Sets on Sunbonnet Sue. The blocks are a historical reflection of the troubled decade. Among twenty blocks depicting her demise, Sue commits suicide at Jonestown by drinking purple Kool-Aid, is killed at the Three Mile Island nuclear disaster, is crushed by a falling Skylab, and is eaten by Jaws. Other, more conventional endings show Sue hit by lightening, tied to railroad tracks, buried alive, and eaten by a giant snake. Who knew that so much history was tied to this block. |
Thanks for sharing gramajo. That is a lovely assortment for sure. I love the one with "Dr. Sam" bwahaha.
