I have NEVER been a Sue fan either, so I think you blocks are just fabulous!!! Great creativity and how fun- you just can't get too serious over them!

mjhaess 03-05-2013 06:10 AM

OMG...That is just too funny...Great imagination...You should be writing books......

Sewnoma 03-05-2013 10:36 AM

Hah!! These are hysterical. I love it! Very creative, well-done, and funny as heck.

Not something that everyone will love (obviously!) but as someone who has plenty of experience with death of loved ones, I firmly believe that the best way to handle sorrow and pain is with laughter and art. When I hurt the worst, that's when I laugh the loudest, and these Sunbonnet Sue murders tickle that part of me, in a harmless and friendly sort of way.

Of course, I'm a big Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett fan too, so maybe we're just similarly warped? LOL

JoanneS 03-05-2013 10:45 AM

Love them! There have been some delightful KSBS quilts at the local quilt show. We're not alone!

AlaskaAlice 03-05-2013 10:53 AM

Me! give it to me! I love it! reminds me there are times to laugh! I have a SBS my mother-in-law made for her 1st child,84 years ago..It is so worn out you can hardly tell what it was!! She was and is still loved! Someone may be encouraged to make some beautiful out of bad feelings...Sue can take it!! she will not die!

As for spending (wasting?) time and energy - it is mine to spend or waste however I see fit. In case you wonder - my favorite authors are Steven King, Dean Koontz, Neil Gaiman, and Terri Pratchett.

This is a quilt that will eventually hang in my house. Even my Mom thinks it's funny. Lighten up folks!

Thanks Chasing Hawk.

I agree with you Martina, that people need should lighten up and be more open minded. If everyone liked the same thing as everyone else, this would be a very boring world to live in.

Martina, your drawing skills, creativity and applique work are great!

humbird 03-05-2013 11:43 AM

As AlaskaAlice said...Sue can take it!! she will not die!

tuckyquilter 03-05-2013 11:54 AM

This is really great thinking.. I Love it...

Deecee 03-05-2013 12:07 PM

I have never been a fan of SBS and normally find her totally booooooooring. Great way to add a bit of interest and intrigue and with your inventive mind Mad, I'm sure this could be a long term serial killing.

I'm glad I got the opportunity to see closeup pics so I could appreciate your inventiveness and embellishments.

ligia 03-05-2013 12:25 PM

Love it Martina, way more creative than following the beaten path.
I love when Kyle (?) dies in every episode of SouthPark to be back in the next one .
Sorrow for a drawing as if it were a child .... (chuckle)

Beeboop71 03-05-2013 12:27 PM

Oh my, lol - this is hilarious and so creative. Poor Sunbonnet Sue. I love the one where she is getting roasted. Thanks for the humor.

MadQuilter 03-05-2013 12:33 PM

I got some more ideas:
How about FrankenSue and another Western version, like getting dragged behind "My little pony"?
Of course there needs to be the bathroom scence from Psycho (although I need to be careful and maintain her modesty). lol

Poor thing, she does get her cute butt in quite a pickle, doesn't she?

blondeslave 03-05-2013 12:37 PM

These blocks are fantastic! I am not a fan of the other Sunbonnet Sue's but LOVE the ones with different methods of doing her in.

sewing4fun 03-05-2013 01:18 PM

Poor little Sue!

Oh my ... now that would be for the Naughty SBS version, would it not?

*snicker*

I'm still laughing along with every twist this takes.
And only wish I could be so creative with the ideas you have had and the skills you have shown to put the ideas to thread and fabric .... even a smidgeon of creativity, I will accept! :D

Keep on MadQuilter ... Keep On! :)

Brenda M 03-05-2013 01:25 PM

I laughed so hard...love them, probably because SB is my least liked quilt pattern ever! No matter how many times I see one I just don't like them...AT ALL!!!!!!!!
Well done!! and thanks for the laugh!

She must have more than 9 lives. You should kill overall sam (aka fisherman fred) at least once. He seems to spend all his time goin' fishin' anyway, so he probably won't be missed if you do him in.

s.h.a.r.k. :)

You can google "Bad (Sunbonnet) Sue Quilt" or "Killing Sue Quilt" to see more.

They've been around since the '70s.

Do NOT leave off "Quilt" when you google. Or you'll get an eyeful you DON'T want!

HouseDragon 03-05-2013 02:19 PM

MadQuilter! These are the BEST and MOST CREATIVE Killing Sue Blocks I've ever seen!

You are a fabulous quilter with a lovely twisted imagination that tickles my fancy.

Keep on showing us your blocks and please continue ignoring the self righteous quilt police.

Oh! BTW, I love Sunbonnet Sue in all forms from killing her off, to the bad Sues doing naughty things like pushing over an outhouse, to the newest international Sues.
:)

MadQuilter 03-05-2013 02:44 PM

I'm actually trying to come up with new versions on the theme that have not been done before. I did make an exception with Stewpot Sue (which you gals haven't seen yet). I still need to add a salt and pepper shaker to the pic though before I can unveil her.

HAHA - naughty Sue in the pickle barrel. Now THAT could be censored by the admin. lol

zipit 03-05-2013 02:45 PM

I think the Psycho shower scene would be superb. Another angle would be him stuffing her in the trunk of the car.

LynnVT 03-05-2013 02:52 PM

These are hilarious! Who ever said there is not violence in the quilt world? Well, also nobody who ever read some of the great quilt murder mysteries, along with these dee-lightfully nasty blocks. Such great embellishment, and so clever. I must say the eyeball kinda grossed me out, but it's all in fun.

MadQuilter 03-05-2013 03:05 PM

My colleague at work just turned me on to artist Edward Gorey He created "A very Gorey Alphabet book in 1963. It is so delighfully dark.

labtechkty 03-05-2013 04:28 PM

OMG poor Sue...lol...

GeeGee 03-05-2013 04:32 PM

How many ways can you kill Sunbonnet Sue? This post is like the woman who shot her boyfriend, stabbed him 27 times and then slit his throat ear to ear. Guess she had the same sense of warped humor. I find this post very disturbing and equally disturbing are the people who think it is funny. I think it sends the wrong message to our children and future quilters!!! Quilting is suppose to be positive, not evil.

nana20010 03-05-2013 04:44 PM

love them keep up the good work

I don't know. Give me some more time to investigate.

It is sending a message that quilting can be very artistic and it is very positive. Just look at how many people enjoy it. Obviously you don't. That's OK. If you don't get my humor that is OK too. Hey, can I help it that poor Sue keeps running into these scrapes? Nope, so don't shoot the messenger.

Oh I see you parsed my comment and left out the part that said:This post is like the woman who shot her boyfriend, stabbed him 27 times and then slit his throat ear to ear. Guess she had the same sense of warped humor.

charlottemarie 03-05-2013 05:06 PM

You girls are just sick! LOL

runswithscissors 03-05-2013 05:12 PM

Oh ho ho! Those are gruesome but hilarious! Love all the details.

Yes, I edited. There is a HUGE difference between quilted/crafted pictures of an accident (or a crime) and a real life massacre. I think that most of the readers who enjoy this thread can tell the difference. If I take your logic to the next level, then I better not read any crime novels either, coz they are evil too. As for your cited example: I don't think it's funny in the least if anyone feels the need to do harm to another human being, let alone commit overkill. But in one thing you are 100% correct:, I do have a warped sense of humor. What's more, I really like my sense of humor.

trolleystation 03-05-2013 05:43 PM

What a 'warped' imagination you have. I love those 'Sues'.

That woman was and still is disturbed. I think one could not say she has a warped sense of humor.
And I also think it is rather rude and crass of you to compare that vile person to Martina and her work.

Martina's work doesn't convey the wrong message to current and future quilters. She merely shows a creative and fun side. Life isn't about being serious all the time. It's about feeling new things and ideas. Experiencing different aspects of human nature. It is not like Martina or any other quilter who has killed of Ol' Sue is a bad person. They are unique and different and a refreshing change of pace here in this world.

imnywoman 03-05-2013 05:50 PM

The blocks are devilishly delightful! My smile for the day.

tbex 03-05-2013 05:57 PM

I love it. haha

Mama Llama 03-05-2013 06:01 PM

OMG!!! I needed a good laugh. What a sense of humor you have. Thank you for sharing.

Love it, not at all worried what others may think of me as a result. :D

Michigan state museum has the original quilt depicting the various stages of demise for Sue.

i encourage everyone to read the history.

I may not believe in what you say but I will defend you for saying it- Voltaire
